PostBank Has Just Lost £380 Of My Money
by Christopher » Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:59 pm

I nipped into the bank yesterday to pay some cash in and all the cashiers were busy and looked like I'd have to wait a good half an hour so I decided to use the deposit point for the first time.

What a mistake that was. As today I went online to check my balance and the money hadn't gone in so I left it thinking it might go in later so I checked again an hour ago and still nothing. I called the bank and they put me through to the branch who have no idea where my money is, WTF???? How can the money not be in the deposit point? I filled out my paying in slip and put it in the envelope provided and dropped it in the hole. Now the bank say as I don't have a receipt(which you can't get at the quick drop) that I can't have the money.

Is this even legal? Where do I stand on this?

You should have something from putting it in? The one in my bank (Natwest) gives you a little print out when you deposit?

Never use them though as it's shite/untrustworthy.

Sorry suzz

Perhaps you can speak to the branch explaining this. You can prove you put something in the box from security cameras.

I believe you also have a right to see yourself on the recordings as well.

My account was credited with £380 today. No idea where that came from?! ;)

No idea, shouldn't you have some sort of receipt from the drop point?

Yep, suzz, don't let them get away with it. Write them a letter with a detailed explanation of what happened. Take the letter with you when you speak with them.

Tough break. I would never use anything like that; it's pretty much inviting them to steal your money. Don't trust banks.

Cheers I shall go in tomorrow in person rather than talking on the phone and see if I can prove it that way. But the amount still can't be proven.

It still isn't in there? In more recent times, I've used Lloyds over-the-counter depositage, everytime I've put money in the deposit-point it's gone through in 24 hours, so something must be up

Hmm.

In that case I would go in to the branch (not phone!). Explain what happened (do you have a personal account chap/chapette?) If not speak to the manager.

Take a note of the time you went in and deposited (and the breakdown of notes if you remember).

Ask if you can see the security camera footage of the time (or at the very least they check it) - hopefully they'll see you put "something" in at that point...you might still have problems proving the amount/account though.

Also ask them to "check" if any other £380's where put in that day (i.e. imply they've made a mistake. They most likely wont be able to tell you due to DPA, you can even say that to them to try and get in good books, but it might start the ball rolling if they contact the other holder and start checking).

My guess is that the £380 might have be credited to someone else. If you can prove you put "something in" and the other person admits it's not theirs...you might get it back.

I think you may be screwed though.

I'm with Lloyds too Suxx and used the drop point once before. The place was rammed and one chap was directing a few of us with just deposits to use it to lower the queue. On using it I realised it doesn't give you a receipt, so I got the annoying man to write me one, stamp it, then decided to never use the deposit point system again.

Sounds like I could be screwed. I can't believe Lloyds don't have receipts for this quick deposit point :x

I shall be going in tomorrow to try and sort this out the best I can. I do know how the notes were split and have a receipt from my Wife's bank account with the amount withdrawn.

Yeah, I don't trust these self-deposit things for this reason.

I always do it over the counter, face to face.
And then asks them to check that it's gone in and visible on my balance.

I know this doesn't help Chris, I know what it's like to feel the loss of that kind of money.
Stick it to them though fella, don't let them get away with your money!

You think anyone would buy old tat from a bank? I don't see the point of them having chairs, it's more like sitting on spikes.
