Yeah I use that, I think I know what Suzz is talking about though, is it like a little letter box with no machinery? I always thought that looked dodgy, there is a little slip on the envelope that you're supposed to pull off and keep though. :(

That is what we have at Lloyds but on the envelope there is only something to fill in with your details nothing to tear off sadly :(

I'll shall be going in tomorrow and having words.

Anyone ever see that episode of The Real Hustle where they dressed up as security guards and stood next to one of these boxes with a bag and told people it was closed and to 'deposit' the cash in their bag. It was amazing the amount of people who did it no questions asked, including one woman who gave them £10K cash which was the shops banking for the day. :fp:

I would say don't do this, but do make a point of mentioning that you've been a loyal customer of theirs for x years and are very disappointed that they've let you down.

You mean "having words" as in "begging them to give you some money" right?

Be sure to point out the flaws in their paying in system too (i.e. how are you meant to provide proof that you've paid in the £380 if they don't provide receipts?)

Take one or more of your kids. Get them to cough (loughly) in the background and moan you wont buy their perscriptions this month.

If that doesn't work you could always just offer one of them to the lonely desperate 60 year spinster as a bribe.

This is an old trick I believe, it appears in pretty much the same form in Neil Gaiman's book "American Gods" among other equally cunning/sickening cons.

One of three things has happened.

1) The deposite box hasn't been emptied
2) Someone in the branch has pilfered the money because they know there's no evidence of theft from the deposite box.
3) Credited someone elses account, or the account number was slightly wrong.

If the answer is 1 don't worry, 2 and you're strawberry floated, 3 can get resolved by speaking to the branch. If you know the EXACT amount then you sould be able to track it down.

My bank (Natwest) failed to take my deposit properly the other week. I gave them £48 precisely in order to have enough for a cheque that was shortly to be taken out. A few days later I got a letter saying I was overdrawn and they were charging me. I went to see them and it turns out the cashier had only registered that I'd put in £40, but they had £8 extra unaccounted for that day. They had actually paid the cheque, but they refunded me all of the cheque anyway and removed the charge, so at the end of the fiasco I was £55 up!

That's what I did wrong :fp:

Really? No way!

If this is true, you owe it to the internet to document this epic self-pwnage.

Of course I didn't I was playing along with Rinks :fp:

Bah. I feared that might be the case. That is significantly less awesome.

When I does this at Lloyds TSB it takes a WEEK for it to show up in my account. Bloody annoying.

At least if you use the deposit machine built into the cashpoint you get a receipt.

Good luck with it.

Not good news...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/7583593.stm

Two arrests after armed bank raid

An armed robber carried out a raid on a bank and drove off with a quantity of cash, Sussex Police have said.

It is thought the robber had a gun in the raid at Barclays in Seaford on Tuesday, Insp Charlie Connaughton said.

Firearms officers were called to the scene and the police helicopter was scrambled, he added.

A man and a woman were arrested in Tesco car park, Lewes, less than an hour later. Insp Connaughton said cash and a firearm were recovered.

Appealing for witnesses, he said the armed robbery happened at the Barclays branch in Broad Street at 1547 BST.

Nobody was injured in the robbery.

Money get!!

I went in today ready to raise hell, told the customer service lady what had happened she went away for about ten minutes and came back with my envelope that had not been seen in the box untils she looked properly.

Now the money is in my account and I am not as poor anymore.

Still I will never use those quick drop points ever again.

I like Stu's version better.

And she blatantly went and got it out of her drawer, not the box :P
