Trailer

Telltale Games, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment, today announced an interactive episodic game series based on DC Comics’ iconic Batman™ that is set to premiere in 2016. The official title for the Telltale series is yet to be revealed.

The episodic game series will premiere digitally on home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices. Specific platform details are yet to be announced.

“At Telltale, we’ve been honored to bring our unique approach to interactive storytelling to some of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be exploring what it means to be Batman in an all-new series starting next year,” said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. “This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.”

“Telltale has an established track record of creating award-winning content for some of the best properties in the world,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We look forward to working with the team as they deliver a new interactive way for fans and gamers to experience the rich narrative world of Batman.”

Interesting. Hoping it's more puzzle based then what Game of Thrones turned out to be. Shitty engine aside, mildly optimistic.

Is it really just gonna look like minecraft? I'd much rather they made a bit of effort with the graphics.

I love Batman and I like most of Telltales' recent games but the two together screams disaster to me.

I'm guessing it'll look similar to The Wolf Among Us or Walking Dead.

Excited for this, could be great.

Excited too, recently bought their Borderlands game, supposed to be quite good from what I've heard.

Telltale Game's upcoming Batman series is due this summer, the studio announced at a SXSW panel today.

The developer noted that the series will focus primarily on Batman/Bruce Wayne and not the extended "Bat-family" like Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, etc. Supporting characters like Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon, and Renee Montoya, however, were confirmed.

Unfortunately Telltale didn't have much to show, as the series is still being written. The studio confirmed that a script for episode one has been penned, with writer Pierre Shorette taking the lead on Batman's first season with Nick Herman operating as creative director. It's worth noting that Shorette and Herman previously collaborated as leads on Tales from the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us, so Telltale is seemingly bringing their A-game to this one.

The studio noted that this is going to be an "M-rated" (the US-equivalent of PEGI 18) look at Batman, while its art will be inspired by the drawings of Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, and Neal Adams. Sadly, no images have been revealed.

"There's not a lot we can show you until we're really close to premiering," said head of creative communications Job Stauffer.

"It's still a Telltale game, but it will be evolved from what you've seen [from Telltale] before," said CEO Kevin Bruner. "But I think a more significant step than you've seen from any of our products in the past, both technologically and creatively I think there's a lot of really cool things going into Batman."

I'd totally forgotten about this.

Regarding the quotes from Tt CEO: I'll believe it when I play it.

I wonder who they'll have doing the voice work. I think Kevin Conroy's time is done.

Inspired by Jim Lees art?
I look forward to playing the final episode in 2019.

Regarding their new engine:

"We've got a whole lot of new technology that's going in that you'll start to see in Batman, and Telltale games going forward [...] We have a bunch of new engineers that have been working on rendering technology - non-photorealistic rendering technology [...] but it's really cool, very much upgraded from the kinds of things that you've seen from Telltale in the past [...] It's still a Telltale game, so it'll be evolved from what you've seen before, but I think a more significant step than you've seen from any of our products in the past."

New engine better not have any teething issues.

They also now employ 350 people and we should start seeing eps release on time.

Which I didn't want from a game based on a cinematic TV series.
