When it was a service being sold in the US I think the "BritBox" name wasn't too bad an idea, but keeping that name for selling it here is just insane. :fp:

This.

I currently have Netflix, Now TV and Amazon Prime (my Prime is heavily discounted and when the discount ends so will my membership) and I am not signing up for anything else. I’ll be pirating anything I want to watch that are exclusive to the other streaming platforms.

Britbox: really tapping into that Brexit mindset. :fp:

It will just show things from the 50s. When Britain was still great and we didn’t have any of those funny tinged people here.

BritBox: overtly racist TV from your childhood, before racism was bad.

The service is doing rather well in America, which isn't that surprising because programming like Love Island and Great British Bake Off on Hulu and Netflix are already proving to be popular.

I can see why Netflix is investing so heavily in original content, because if C4 and C5 were also to join this new Britbox venture, and with other services like Disney/Fox already leaving, their content is going to get dramatically stripped.

On one hand it's annoying you're now going to need to subscribe to multiple services to watch everything you want, but on the other it's contract free. You stay one month, watch what you want to watch, and then leave. And if NowTV is any indication, it really does pay to leave because they'll hit you up with discounts galore.

Calling this outcome:

In the year 2039. Neo-Millenials now spend as much on the various streaming services as they do their Rent.

Teena, 24, from New-Slough says:

"I can't afford to eat after spending all my wages on monthly subscriptions with "Sky Stream", "HBOnDemand", "Dreamworks Wire", "DisneyNow", "FOX-247", WarnerBros Instantania", "BritBox", "Chan4", "Paramount Studios Tick", "FiveLive Ping", "Pixar the action", "Babestation Play", "Anime 2Day", "Poirot-on-command", "Film4 Ever", "Toonami Wave", "Twitch Premium", "Universal Pictures Plus" and "Columbia Collection"

Maybe the streaming companies need to take a look at the video game industry. Have "Premium" or "Extra" versions of the subs where you get to watch programmes three days "early". Amazon Prime Ultimate :datass: .

Isn't that the only way to view these shows over there?

Seems pointless to me, half the reason people watch BBC and ITV is habit and convenience, pressing 1 or 3 on the remote is a tradition that goes back decades.

If you're going to go out of your way to subscribe to something then it'll be for something like Netflix or Amazon.

Up there with Carling and Vauxhall's latest marketing.

Making Britain be back British seems to work for advertisers these days (or at least they think it will).

Ugh. If it's anything like the iPlayer or ITV Hub apps then it'll be awful, with barely-HD quality and a confusing, laggy interface. Plus neither make enough decent progamming - at least for my interests - to warrant paying for it (especially when I already pay the licence fee). Makes sense in the US/Canada, but not here.

I'm almost convinced that we're living in a matrix like simulation and all the current weird events like Brexit, Trump being US president and the 21+ temperature in February are all symptoms of new firmware being installed.

It'd explain a lot.

That would be more depressing than this actually being reality. If this is a simulation then the “real” people are either cruel as strawberry float or incompetent as strawberry float. Or both.

When I think about this reality being a simulation I like to imagine that it's a hydrodynamics simulation of Jupiter and they're not even logging any data from Earth. One day they'll have enough pretty pictures of the Great Red Spot and they'll just turn it off without even realising we're here.

That’s a cheery thought.

It’s more likely that this is a Sim City like game that is being played by a really shitty kid. And if you think it's bad now, just wait until that kid finds out about masturbation.
