Like any media streaming is a mix of quality and intentions that, in this case, is dominated by nonsense and dangerous toxicity. PewDiePie is consistently linked to radicalisation and far right views, Ninja himself has towed the old 'no unescorted women' bullshit that Pence is on and DrDisrespect should have been arrested for filming live from a men's toilet at E3.

But there is good stuff. Look at HBomberguy's charity stream where he raised £300 000 for Mermaids in response to transphobe Graham Linehan getting their Lottery funding placed under review. Or Paladin Amber who's made calling out sexist capital G Gamers an art form:

Sure, there are some people doing good with streaming, but the amount of money that floats around in that system is nauseating, and its being paid mainly to idiot teenagers playing games in their bedroom, rather than the developers who actually made the games that are the content the whole medium was founded on. Why the strawberry float should "No girls allowed" Ninja get $1m for playing Apex Legends for a week, when the devs who actually made that game will only ever see a fraction of that? The whole system is utterly out of whack.

Agree on that, for sure.

Star power though isn't it - the "face" of something will almost always benefit more than the people behind the scenes that enable them to do their thing.

Famous people get paid, it's a tale as old as time. Streamers are attractive to advertisers as they reach the most saught after and difficult to reach demographic.

This is that model taken to a logical extreme though. It's a symptom of a broken system.

It looks like my high end guesstimate of $50 million might be too low, Keemstar believes it could be at the $100 million end! This is nothing for Microsoft if it causes a major movement of audience to their streaming platform. Keemstar is happy about it because he, and some others, feel that the twitter moderators and management have biases.

ta for link, I've been watching all sorts of random shite, Jack Septiceye recently said that Minecraft presents less demonitisation risks. But, to me, Minecraft seems timeless because of it's openness and draw to kids (and adults). I'm too old for FPSs but I would have thought a game like Fortnite has a shelf life, but maybe there truly can be an a gaming equivalent of football. I went to Paris Games Show in 2015 and was surprised to see a massive seating area filled with people watching League of Legends matches.

That makes me feel physically ill. $100 million. What the strawberry float kind of world are we living in?

Yes, ok I can see why people donate to tiny channels but people are giving money to a guy who has more money than most people will have in 10 lifetimes.
