Came here to post this! I think it's more of a remake than a reboot that's coming, isn't it?

All of these, except I actually enjoyed Okamiden (was no 'proper' Okami 2 though) and you probably need not to count Meteos Wars or that Disney rubbish either.

Okami already had 2 sequels, plus Okamiden which was good.

Forgot Diddy Kong Racing.

Rare never putting out that Donkey Kong Racing Gamecube title was a great shame.

Actual answer: Skies of Arcadia

It doesn't need a sequel at all, but I'd for sure jump at a spiritual successor - give me a whole new world to explore

Also, Beyond Good and Evil because who knows when or if the sequel will finally be released

For me, Eternal Darkness is a franchise I really wish Nintendo had kept alive. I'm surprised the sanity meter mechanic hasn't been more copied and I don't know if it was because I was a gullible teenager when the game came out, but it really did continually mess with my head to great effect. Would love to see what a creative development team could do with it on modern systems. It also has the record for the biggest jump scare I've ever had from any form of entertainment (that bloody bathtub bit).

Another franchise for me that I'd love to see on modern systems is Blast Corps. No real reason other than it was stupid, satisfying fun, and an update with a modern looking city to tear apart would be great.

A few games have tried similar things but I think Nintendo actually owned a software patent for the sanity meter concept for a time.

Rockstar ate my hamster.... This game is ripe for a sequel with lots of new singers ripe for some ribbing , plus there's not a lot of stuff like it

Moonstone, one of the best Amiga games lots of blood brilliant.

The Haunting, another very interesting game a sequel could offer so much

Nintendo of America still owns the patent which is still valid, interestingly it was filed in 2000 and lists Denis Dyack as an inventor, it's also the only patent to his name. The diagrams blatantly show a Zelda game as the game itself probably didn't exist in the form known to us as Eternal Darkness at that point.

That's interesting, thanks for posting GG.

I'm surprised a gameplay mechanic like that can be patented to be honest. I thought it was usually very difficult to do that with gameplay concepts.

There are a few frustrating patents like that - there was one held (maybe by capcom?) for putting minigames on loading screens. Not sure if that's still valid.

To the contrary there seems to be loads of other very generic patents.

Software patents was a huge area for consternation in the states a while ago, they are not generally granted in Europe in comparison. It meant that for example a corporation could quite easily claim ownership over a software feature that was largely developed in the open source sphere or by many other programmers through serendipity or Internet or which is very global in nature. Basically, you can't own a mathematical or logical concept in my view.

Yep it was namco I'm surprised they got the patent as there were a few old cassette games that had basic games you could play while the tape loaded which obviously really predated namco doing this.

What sequels? Genuine question, I don't know what you mean!

Oh my gosh I can't believe I didn't get the obvious answer. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective! Excellent game, but largely self-contained. Didn't need a sequel so much. A spiritual sequel wouldn't have gone amiss though.

Rockstar's Bully

Awesome game, and one that definitely deserved a sequel.

I remember Joe Blade on the speccy having a crap pacman clone during its loading screen. Maybe that pissed of Namco enough to patent it.

Yep Joe Blade was one of the ones I was trying to think of. I also had a Joe Blade game that came with a head aligning tool.

I think a sequel is definitely on the horizon with this one, at least.
