Oh, I agree, Orange! The game has a core set of fans who enjoy it as it is (I do, too!) and, yeah, there is a concern that the game could be changed to suit other tastes. As a positive comparison, I hugely enjoyed the relative simplicity of No Man's Sky a time launch and the subsequent enhancements (big changes!) did change the experience... but, in time, I could appreciate that the game was better.

I hope that much of the same feel is there, but with other options to explore, too.

From what I've played of it, I'd say it's definitely worth a look. You can try it for free for a week on all formats from later today.

I don't think the free trial is up yet but, if it becomes available in line with the usual '76 updates, it'll be there around 1500 (UK).

Fallout 76 is €14.50 on cdkeys so gonna buy it outright I think.

EDIT: Got it but won't be able to start downloading till I get home.

EDIT 2: Nope I could redeem code on website so it should be downloaded by time I'm home unless external drive full.

Isn't it free this week anyway?

Hope you like it! Will be good to read some impressions. If you're used to the previous games, the biggest change is probably VATS and how it won't be useful until you've leveled up

Free trial this week but thought I’d buy it before it goes back up with new stuff coming. Sea of thieves is back up to original price point more or less for same reasons.

So, after nearly 5hours of play tonight, I loved this. I will caveat it with the fact that my 8year old daughter played with me and for some reason Fallout 76 grabbed her attention more than most other games. We played in a team just 2 of us in party chat (her live account is locked down so she can’t receive messages or friend requests apart from myself of course).

First thing off the bat was, we encountered no bugs in our play time, nota single one. Secondly, it was like playing Fallout 4 in mp, there we’re massive buildings and complexes that we stealth our way through and it was all just very very enjoyable. It’s gorgeous on X1X I think it’s 4K pretty sure of it but it was my daughter who constantly remarked on how beautiful it looked at times and she was on my old launch X1. She rarely talks about graphics in games but she did in this all the time.

We traveled to regions too hard for us and made our escape, but I think the sheer openness was why impressed my Sophie, she was constantly asking should we follow this river or this trail. A lot of my enjoyment came from the co-op but god damn I loved it. Like I can’t fault it at mo, it wipes the floor with ESO because the gameplay is pure Fallout.

Maybe in time I’ll get bored but first impressions are very positive from me.

It's not the kind of game I imagine 8 year olds playing, but glad you're liking it photek! Purely as a map it is the most diverse and interesting to explore.

Bit late, bit looks like they've finally sent out those canvas bags people shelled out for:

7 months later, Bethesda has finally delivered the Fallout 76 canvas bags

Quite how it took this long to sort out I'll never understand! Did anyone here go in for this or was it a US only thing?

OR's continued adventures in base building: presenting Pylon Town!

I built Pylon Town on top of an existing unnamed location, which I briefly walk through at the start of the video. Basically, everything underground was already there, everything on top is my creation (bar the pylon itself, naturally!).

I'm super happy with this base, it feels the most like a "location" out of every base I've built, and it's probably the densest too. The bar was a particularly difficult exercise in cramming a lot into a small space, and the market street is intentially a crowded enclosed space (an aesthetic I am a fan of).

Oh, man, you're building some cool stuff, Orange - this base does feel more like a small town than one building! The differing footpaths leading to other sections is really well done.

I'm been totally away from F76 these past six weeks or so - Souls took over! - but I really want to get back to it and maybe even visit your base(s) :-) .

I've got back into this over the past couple of days.

And I only realised today that I could a build a water purifier   . All this time I've been getting (radioactive) water from the pump and then boiling it! I discovered that I could build the purifier by accident; only realising when checking out another player's vending machine and seeing that he had the purifier plan for sale... and an indicator showed that I already knew the plan :o :fp: .

Anyhow... I explored the airport area and completed the early "responder" quests. I also worked on improving my camp; I've now got the purifier working, a couple of defence turrets and a few cacti placed on my shelf unit :-) .

I also saw that you can use the new camp computer for (I think) arranging stuff with your in-game friends; but I don't know how to do that yet.

No wonder I was finding the game tough... I was caught in a cycle of constantly collecting radioactive water and then boiling it  .

There is a lot to take in when you start the game and it's easy to become overwhelmed with information. I suspect that I've forgotten (or haven't looked at) a few other basic things, too. I think it's a good thing that Bethesda are going to make things a littles easier / friendlier in the upcoming Patch 11 update.

Bethesda wrote:...Lots of new Dwellers have been leaving Vault 76 for the first time over the past few weeks and, in Patch 11, we’re looking to make a few adjustments to help new and low-level characters have more gradual introductions to some of the game’s mechanics and challenges. For example, characters under level 25 will pay fewer caps when fast traveling, those under level 15 will have higher disease resistance, and we’re replacing a number of early-game Challenge rewards with items and other supplies that will give these Dwellers a better chance at survival...

The update is arriving "mid-July" and you can read more about it here.

I know that Orange, Pattybean and a couple of other GRcadians are playing this so I'll look out for you online and maybe swing by your camps :-) .

Hey, Orange, it was cool to see you in-game! Thank you for that gun  .

...and then I got killed by one of those super-mutant guys :-) .I think I was a little under-powered to take them on  . I tried to return to you but I couldn't find you; I wandered around and got duffed up by some high-level ghouls!
