Not gonna get to play over the weekend but I'm pretty happy with how this is turning out! The main thing I need to add now is just a water purifier and some crops at ground level.
Last night I built stairs all the way up to the top of the existing tower, and to my surprise I found a hole in the roof just big enough to fall through. The tower is actually hollow inside so it's sort of a "secret" empty room inaccessible through usual gameplay. Even getting that high with a camp requires first starting the camp at ground level, building up to the pipes, and then moving the camp to pipe level (as where you place the camp defines it's range, including height, and one of the quirks is that camp height extends both above and below where it is initially placed - so if you can build up and replace the camp at a higher location, you gain more height to build in).
The hole in the roof made a silly (and stimpack-requiring) entrance to the tower inside because it's such a fall, and no building could be done inside because foundations can't be placed and stairs won't fit inside - but what I did was place the fusion generator inside the tower, and hook up power lines up and out through the roof. I then got rid of the temporary stair/floor scaffolding I had to get up onto the roof. The end result is that the generator is completely hidden from the rest of the camp and completely inaccessible without building stairs back up B)
