Thanks for the game, man - that was brilliant fun! How did you find me in-game? Was it just luck?!?

Really enjoyed our exploration; we went to loads of places that I'd not visited before. I dunno what that dude was doing at the end of our game; he seemed a bit odd?

Anyhow, great stuff. Gotta build a new camp as I demolished my old one! That's a task for tomorrow night.

Yep was fun! Saw you were online so I joined your server from the in-game friends list then fast traveled to your location (it seems they made that free now for friends even if you're not in a team).

You can imagine my surprise when I approached you in the hillside camp. "Wow!" I thought, "Jawa has really upgraded this since he posted that video the other day! He has metal walls, I'm impressed! ...and water purifiers? ...and all this power hooked up?? ...and an artillery piece???"

...and then I realised it wasn't your camp at all

I really enjoy the crossbow as a weapon but it's not up to task in higher level areas, so I was enjoying being able to crossbow it up as support. I felt like I was playing a companion from previous Fallout games, deliberately letting you take the lead and get hits in for XP etc. 8-)

jawafour wrote:EDIT: Hmmn... am I able to "demolish" my current home and get all the materials back? I wanna start afresh and it seems that I have to break it down piece-by-piece? Will have a tinker.

You can either "scrap" or "store" things you have already built. Storing things lets you reuse them for free, but even when stored they still take up budget. Scrapping things will earn you back 50% of the materials you spent to build the item. So you're better off storing if you can, but sometimes you have to scrap to make room in the budget.

... :o . I didn't know about the friends list... being able to jump into the same world as a a friend is a great touch. I was amazed when I saw you arrive!

Haha, yes, I was wandering around the map looking for a place to build my new pad (more on this below) when I stumbled across that other camp.

It was a lot of fun traveling about and checking out different locations! I'm unsure about the loot aspect; if one person finds stuff in, say, a locker, is that locker then empty for other people that you're with? I realised that I may have been picking up too much stuff instead of sharing it  . Our team-up was also a great chance for me to practice aiming with the gun. Before, I'd tended to stick with a melee weapon 'cos my shooting was terrible, but I got a bit better last night :) .

Uh-oh... I have made a big mistake. I scrapped nearly *everything* in my camp, thinking that I was getting all of the materials back... not just 50% :o  :fp: . I gotta make a new camp from fresh tonight and so I guess I'll have to start a bit smaller this time  .

Anything inside a container (locker, safe, crate, whatever) is unique to you so you don't have to worry. It's only things that are in the world itself that are shared, so if I picked up a bucket that was on the ground it would disappear for you too. I think it works well enough, the only real issue I have with it is that notes and holotapes might get taken by other people so you can miss them. Luckily for me most people seem to ignore them so I can grab them all

Ah, I see - thanks, dude. I meant to say, your new place was super impressive... it looked great and it was so cool to see a bar, juke box and piano :o .

Planned maintenance is running from 1600 (UK) so I hope it's over in time for a bit more Appalachia action this evening!

I've got my first lights setup :toot: . I now need to find more copper and ceramic so that I can have more than one power point :-) .

Edit: I'm wearing the leather jacket and jeans that OrangeRKN found for me yesterday  .

That moment when I'm on my 11th main quest and find out I have 16 more to go.

I'm level 59 (special stats cap is at 50) and have been playing for hundreds of hours.

This might explain why the enemy scaling for the main quests is completely screwing me over

It's like they expect people to move on to later areas of the map before fully exploring the places they're in currently :x

I couldn't resist a nice bit of laminate :datass: .

I may have got it with Atoms. Sorry, ORKN :shifty: .

Man, you're piling up game-time! I was just playing and the "24-hour" achievement popped. I was nervously scouting out a building at the time and it made me jump   .

Oh, and...

New day new build

This was an exercise in blending in to the environment, and was quite "technical" in getting stair heights to line up with the existing walls. With the generator building I also had to line up with the clifftop, which I hacked into a smooth walk transition with my favourite piece of furniture the low coffee table. The overturned train carriage was also hard to build with, in both getting a realistic looking walkway onto the top and in placing anything inside. The whole build was complicated by the sloping ground, and that went double inside the carriage, which is partly why I turned it into a tomato and carrot farm - but also I think that's pretty cool!

If you're wondering the two big walls either side of the tracks and the overturned carriage plus spilled crates were the existing elements that I built around. Hopefully my three buildings don't look too out of place!

Previous updates have all been great but other than the camera (hopefully that means a bigger photo album!) this sounds a bit dodgy to me. Repair kits were a good item in previous games, but now they're making it an atomic shop item. This is the first "gameplay" affecting microtransaction. Currently the atomic shop is only stocked with CAMP items and cosmetics (like apparel, icons, emotes), but repair kits are a genuine useful item and they're planning on making you pay for them. I certainly won't be doing that.

Also disappointing that player vending has been pushed back until May :(

That's an innovative camp build, Orange... great use of the environment! You've obvs found plans to build a varied range of items now.

I think I'm gonna build a new camp this weekend. It's a really enjoyable aspect of the game.

Yeah, I have concerns about the upcoming repair packs, too; they do sound a bit "pay to win". Hmmn, we'll see.

Are you guys both playing on ps4? Would love to team up some time?

Jawa suggested I share some thoughts on the game. I picked it up for £12.50 new even after reading all the negativity. It is a departure from the fallout games that preceded it but I actually really like what they are going for with the survival sim vibe.

I have also found the quests to be quite engaging despite the lack of human NPCs. The world is also excellently realised. Don't really know what else to add. It's the best £12.50 I've spent on a game new and having such low expectations it absolutely knocked it out of the park for me.

I'm level 36 now so if any one wants to buddy up for anything send me a message.

It's great to see you back here in GR, Pattybean! Yeah, Orange and I both play this on PS4; ORKN is a good player whilst I am a beginner (albeit with some cracking laminate flooring) :-) . Orange and I teamed up the other day and it was excellent fun; I'd be up for more of that with you guys!

Yep on PS4. Add me, OrangeRakoon :) Glad to hear someone else enjoying the game! As jawa says could be good fun to team up :toot:

In other news Bethesda should refund me the 500 caps I lost for doing this:

I'm level 60. Currently finishing up exploring the savage divide before moving on to the last two regions on the right of the map. Wouldn't be surprised if you're further than me on the main quest
