Well this is unusual!

Earlier today, the Steel Dawn update - scheduled to release on 1 December - was accidentally launched on the Xbox format. Subsequently, Bethesda has decided to make this release official and release the update on all formats... right now!

Maintenance started at 4pm EST (9pm UK) and is scheduled to last for around six hours. After that, we're all set to play the updated game :toot: .

I was wondering why after I finished downloading 80GB it then wanted to download another 16GB update

How do you accidentally launch an expansion?

I read that load times are quicker, Parksey. I don't believe there are any graphical detail changes - although I haven't yet heard if the framerate is improved.

The Steel Dawn update is now live!

Reading through the patch notes - which are massive and linked here - I have noticed...

VATS: Greatly improved the accuracy of chance to hit percentages when using VATS.
VATS: Hits that successfully strike the target now deal damage correctly.

Yes! Strawb-floatin' yes! Will be checking this out later :toot: .

That’s potentially a huge change. Thank the lord above!

Had a quick go... in terms of VATS, the jury is out.

I think it's better than it was, but it's still odd. You can shoot a ghoul in a body part and totally remove it's energy but you still have to target other limb(s) to finish it off. And this can be slow and require a lot of bullets.

More testing needed tonight!

iirc jawa that bar will be the body part health, so you shouldn't expect reducing that to kill the enemy. That's the damage needed to cripple that body part (same as can happen to you as a player).

You should still be able to damage them by continuing to shoot a crippled body part though in VATS, so if that doesn't work it is still broken!

Orange, yeah, that's the crux of it - once a body part is crippled, further shots at that part don't take down the enemy's overall health; you have to target a different body part and shoot that instead. I've grabbed a vid of this and will post it later.

I am currently using the "target body parts" perk card (x3) and tonight I'm gonna try taking them off to see if that improves the situation.

Is that not how VATS works in the proper games though? Reduce a limb to 0% to cripple it, not kill the enemy, unless it's the chest or head.

You can still keep shooting the crippled limb for damage though in 3,NV and 4. You can cripple the head without killing the enemy.

In this video I show how VATS is working for me.

It seems that VATS is working in terms of targeting enemies and their limbs, but I don't think shots are taking off damage correctly. Once a limb's energy is reduced to nothing, further hits on that limb do not impact the enemy's energy; you have to target different limbs to kill it. This results in a cycle of needing lots of shots to take out a single enemy and, as a level 44 player with basic weaponry facing a group of level 44 ghouls, it can be tricky and pretty bullet-intensive.

I need to adjust my perk cards to have things supporitng my rifles / shotgun but, even so, looking back at that video it just doesn't feel like this is how enemy damage should work. Or... maybe it is?
