I do, but I don't think this is unusual. Anyone claiming they aren't a victim of confirmation bias is, well, lying to themselves to some degree.

I would argue with you sayin 'everything gets negative reviews on the internet.' I mean, in this context. Of course everything gets negative reviews on the internet. Here though I don't think it's a stretch to say F76 is receiving more negative reviews than positive and due to the developer and the franchise I think this is worth notice.

Like I mentioned above, I did indeed cherry pick a few reports in order to support my own viewpoint but I simply haven't seen any majority positive YouTube impression pieces. I mean RPS seemed to get along OK with it here

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/1 ... ilderness/

and here

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/1 ... e-fallout/

But that's about the most positive pieces on my radar.

I guess you're right, I just try to have a bit of an open mind when it comes to the internet's reaction, especially as it gets harder and harder to tell who's opinion is valid, who is falling in with the prescribed narrative and who is just after the hits. Then there is also three fact that games criticism seems to be more about opinion pieces and finding people who have similar tastes to yourself so there will be perfectly valid positive and negative view points but they might not be relevant to yourself.

I totally understand why people have an issue with the direction that Bethesda are going with Fallout, especially given the like warm reception to Fallout 4 but open world loot games are all the rage at the moment and while it's more than likely a financial design than an artistic one, Fallout 3 for me is the open world loot game so
I think they deserve a shot.

Ironic that that is the one game he has actually played ;)

Give it 10 months and I'll be back in here singing 76's praise.

I'm hugely conflicted about the game. I want to like it, but would I?

I've spent a bit of time watching and reading opinions about the Beta. There *are* problems... but the technical ones are maybe solvable and I can still see potential.

I liked how this guy took a look at both the negative and positive aspects.

At this time, I'm veering back towards being on-board. Not definitely... but maybe.

If anything, it's made me tempted to go home and start a fresh Fallout 4 game.
It's been long enough that I should have forgotten most of it by now...

Betheda has a special title for their playtesters. They call them "customers".

I couldn't get into 4, I tried twice on PC and PS4. I streamed them to give me more incentive to play them and I was bored.

I liked 3 and really liked Vegas, but didn't finish it.

4 really is a gooseberry fool fallout game. I was borderline addicted to 3 and new Vegas, and I never got close to finishing 4.

As much as I like a bethesda RPG, I wish they'd give it back to someone like obsidian.

There were a few things improved in 4. I like being able to customise my own base just how I want it (although I simply could not be arsed doing the same for all the settlements - seriously why couldn't there be an option to have the settlers build stuff for themsleves?) and the weapons were fun to muck around with and customise. In most other ways it was a backwards step though, in terms of overall game design and narrative.

The best part of Fallout 4 was actually the Far Harbour DLC, which actually gave you mulitple ways of solving quests and made you pause for thought on occasion rather than brainlessly following the next quest marker.

Dang it, I just don't know.

There are issues...

- Weak (or, rather, hard to concentrate on due to other players) storyline aspects
- (Some) other players being jerks
- VATS shooting that isn't really VATS shooting
- Queue and wait at certain plot elements until other players have finished using them

... but there are positives, too.

+ Huge open world to explore
+ Despite some grumbles about the game engine, the environments do look beautiful at times
+ I like MMO-styled games; it can be fun to see other players!
+ The game can - potentially - evolve on a continual basis

My thinking is changing with every new opinion that I read / watch. I don't think I'm going to make a decision until the last moment before launch.

Watched the missus play this last night. There was a Wanted person on the map, so we decided to hunt them down.

Kinda hard to inflict wasteland justice on a guy who won't stop fast traveling! :x

Pete Hines of Bethesda, talking to GameSpot, wrote:"How long is [Fallout 76] going to be up? Forever," Hines told GameSpot, doubling down on what he's said before. "I don't know how to give an answer other than that. It's not like anybody makes a game and goes, 'Well this is going to make it for 10 years if we're lucky.' ... this is a massive franchise and a massive undertaking, and our commitment to it is it is never-ending, and that it continues on an ongoing basis."

I like the sound of this. Of course, with online gaming you never know what could happen, but it does sound lke Bethesda are committed to on-going development and support for the game. I feel that the launch period could prove tricky in terms of player expectations and experiences, but I have hope that the game will evolve over a long period of time.

If they don't pull an EA and abandon it at the first sign of negativity, it might do very well in terms of content. ESO has had a ton since it launched and if 76 gets similarly dedicated support it could really thrive.
