Is it still a microtransaction if it's more than the cost of the game? (Currently £13.99 on cdkeys)

You can usually pick up the entire GOTY edition for that much.

Please keep playing our game...

Anyone that has logged into Fallout 76 in 2018 will get the original Fallout, Fallout 2 and the combat-focused Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel for free next month, Bethesda has announced.

Players will get the games as part of the Fallout Classic Collection, and should be able to claim them in early January. The collection was initially available as a pre-order bonus for Fallout 76.

It's not unusual to have a board of directors made up of people like that.

Bethesda Is Wielding Fallout 76 Banhammer For Players Using Mods To Improve Graphics

The latest thing to irritate fans of Fallout is Bethesda's use of the banhammer against modders. The publisher has been banning Fallout 76 players from the game for using third-party mods to make the game more enjoyable. Reports turning up online indicate that multiple users have received similar emails from Bethesda noting they have been banned. The email reads, "This account has violated the Code of Conduct and Terms of Service by cheating. This account was detected to be running a third-party application, which provides an unfair in-game advantage, while logged onto Fallout 76."

The bright spot here is that the bans that Bethesda is handing out aren't permanent; it lets players appeal the ban by writing an essay on why using third-party apps to cheat is bad. The issue the modding community has is that while some of the bans seem righteously handed out for players using mods to gain a competitive advantage, others who were banned were merely using a shader mod to improve graphics of the game. Bethesda seems to make no differentiation between mods for cheating and mods simply meant for customization.

The e-mail players receive,
“This account has violated the code of conduct and terms of service by cheating. The account was detected to be running a third-party application, which provides an unfair in-game advantage, while logged into Fallout 76.

If you would like to appeal this account closure, we would be willing to accept an essay on ‘Why the use of third party cheat software is detrimental to an online game community’ for our management team to review.”

Just when the embers had started to die down. Todd Howard's team puts the petrol on.

What a bunch of thundercunts.

When once I'd have bought Elder Scrolls or (normal) Fallout on day one, I'll wait a few weeks in future.

This game is pretty amazing in that it's managed to completely kill pretty much any hope I had for Elder Scrolls 6 which was my most anticipated game.
If they use the same engine for a next gen game it's going to look bloody terrible as everything will have moved on and I wouldn't be surprised if games like Cyberpunk or Metro on this gen look better than it manages with next gen hardware.
Considering how much money they've made from people like me who've bought multiple editions of Skyrim I'm struggling to see how they don't have the resources to make an all new engine for such a high profile franchise that they will I'm sure remake again and again for PS6/Xbox and future Nintendo hardware when other developers with much less spare cash manage.

The architecture is archaic and they're already hitting technical limits and looking massively dated.

If they don't look at this disaster and see they need new tech in next gen games the company is dead and if it means a year long delay for Elder Scrolls 6 so they can create something new then they will have to suck it up and just admit they screwed up and do it.

They absolutely do have the money, vast sums of it hidden away in tax havens etc. but spending it to develop a new engine would mean they make a slightly smaller mountain of profit, which would impact the growth of shareholder returns, which is far more important.

The obvious answer from anyone who's even slightly familiar with the current situation is that if they don't spend the money a huge percentage of the current fans will just refuse to buy future products from them which means even less profits.
Are shareholders really that stupid?
