It truly is disgusting. If only there was a way in which we didn't have to spend time on this dang game if we didn't want to.

Still reading the thread.

Still grimacing.

Thought everyone would like to know.

This does seem a little odd... the player claims to have put over 900 hours into the game in a period, indicated by Bethesda, of 30 days. Which works out to 30 hours per day. Even if one were to say "That's bullshit, Bethesda! He has played since launch day!" then it equates to around 10 hours per day, every day. Possible, but unlikely.

Hmm... I don’t think it says 900hrs within 30 days? The player claims 900hrs total, which is possible since launch.

Bethesda’s issue is that the player collected more anthracite ammo within a 30 day period than is possible (or probable) without cheating. I don’t know how ammo works in Fallout76, but if a legal perk reduces ammo weight by 90%, isn’t it at least feasible that the hoard was accrued by valid means?

The player claims 900 hours:

Bethesda claim 30 days:

That's 30 hours per day (...) if 30 days; around 10 hours per day if 96 days (i.e. from launch).

How are you still reading that wrong, clearly says he's violated gooseberry fool due to collecting an obscene amount of ammunition in what they believe to be within 30 days, not that he's put in his 900 hours in 30 days :slol:

I maintain that Fallout 76 is actually a new genre of FtP comedy game, and everyone who didn't buy the game is playing it.

Props to Bethesda.

Some of those ammo counts sound dodgy as strawberry float at first glance, I've played for ~100 hours and I have just under 300 5.56 ammo, and zero ultracite ammo (I think that probably isn't available until I get further into the story in fairness).

When I saw the headline I was briefly worried as I thought I have an awful lot of ammo too. For example I've never used 5mm ammo and it is common from the start of the game, I also have the bandolier perk so I don't have to worry about its carry weight so I've just been hoarding it, and I have the luck perk for finding extra ammo. I have about 5000 5mm ammo iirc.

Extrapolate my play time to 900 hours and I'd have around 45,000. I certainly don't play the game efficiently and have spent a lot of time in the CAMP construction, so maybe for his 900 hours he has been grinding out daily quests for the rewards, and maybe he has been crafting ammo too (although that makes no sense as he clearly doesn't need it!). That might account for the 5mm ammo and maybe even the .45 ammo, which is also common (again though I think I have less than 5000). I can't comment on ultracite other than saying I have never had any, but with 5.56 that ammo is very rare in my experience. It's probably more common as a reward for later quests and in the higher level side of the map, and I'm not sure if the loot chance rises with story progression inside containers, but most of mine I have obtained from crafting it myself as I need it because of how uncommon it is to find.

So having those ammo counts over 900 hours? Maybe, assuming some efficient grinding and making assumptions about later game loot odds and quest rewards. Within 30 days of gameplay? That depends on what exactly Bethesda mean by that, and if they're even correct in saying so (which is certainly not a given) - but if so, that seems very unlikely.

That said, on re-reading the player seems to be disputing those ammo numbers? At which point we only have his word against Bethesda's, unless he has screenshots/recordings. And yes, reading his reddit post he claims to have only had 36,000 5mm ammo, which is well within reason for 900 hours compared to my extrapolation! So it seems like the issue here might be with Bethesda's analytics. I'm guessing that they did some analysis to automate finding everyone who looks like they were abusing item duplication, and this guy got caught out as an edge case. And now he's suffering, because Bethesda had pretty awful customer support.

On trading between two accounts, I would have assumed that was against the rules. I'm used to that being a form of alt-abuse in online games, and I still don't understand why the player was doing it. Still, as dodgy as that sounds to me, that's not the reason given for banning him. It's probably the reason he tripped up the analytics though.

(Also if we're being pedantic the headline is misleading as it says banned while the email states the accounts are suspended until the fix is patched in)

This post has ended up a bit stream of concsiousness-y, sorry

Is it not that his low level "trading" account could be 30 days old?

Yeah that could well be it, sounds pretty likely that a level 2 new character picking up several stacks of thousands of ammo could trip what automated abuse checking Bethesda have in place.

The moral of this story is don't play a single videogame for 900 hours.

I wonder what the new camera will offer over the existing photo mode? Currently we can take snapshots and add borders... maybe the new system will bring a bit more organisation around the photos stored?

The customisable backpack sounds interesting; perhaps it will allow you to carry more items or add other features? I suspect this aspect will be for higher-level players.

Yeah, it is unlikely, look at the cost of their previous games DLC. Still if it improves the game in a significant way, it's a good thing.
