I now have a water pump outside my pad and I can sleep in a metal-framed bed, too :toot: . I had some plans... but didn't realise that I had to "read" them to activate them for building   .

Looking good :toot:

Having to read plans is such an oddity, I think everyone went through the same thing. I know i did

From that screenshot I'm not sure your lamp is powered? You should place a power connector on the wall/ceiling and wire it to the generator, then anything in the building like lights and lamps will get power (within a decent range of the power connector).

Things like the water purifier work differently in needing to be directly wired up.

You're spot-on, Orange - although I have the power generator, I haven't linked anything up to it! Tonight I will look at linking the light, and maybe a couple more, up to it. Thanks for the heads-up :-) .

Edit: Actually, I may re-build the actual house frame first because I've kinda just bunged stuff together without making it "look good" at the moment. I've got an appetite to do more, now!

Oh boy... I am addicted to the camp-building in this! Just spent two-and-a-half hours building a new house and that time went in a snap; I hugely enjoyed it :-) . There's not much in it yet because I need to discover more plans and I don't have copper for electrical wiring, but it's coming on well.

I will take a few photos when I have more gear in it :toot: .

Hey, Orange, I was watching a YouTube vid about camp building and they were talking about locations; indicating that it's best to choose somewhere at the edge of a map or just in front of mountains so that enemies can't get behind or on the roof. My camp is pretty low down on the side of a hill so I think enemies could easily get to it. I haven't got plans or materials to build defences yet.

Can enemies / players damage and loot camps? I'd be annoyed if someone started wrecking my place :-( .

I have the same bug when I was playing regularly. The building is very fun, not that I'm particularly inventive in my designs, I normally just end up trying to make the most out of the space I have and end up with a big box.

I have found it is still possible to build some unlikely structures though that can be quite interesting floating off the side of a hill.

At Bethesda's recent show event they chatted a bit about Fallout 76 and YouTuber JuiceHead has presented an interesting look at this chat. It's way too early to call yet but I'm getting a "No Man's Sky" vibe in the sense of a game having a hyped, disappointing launch but then being significantly improved subsequently. From playing 76 a bit more recently I can see the potential that is there and, hopefully, Bethesda will continue to build on this.

I don't think Fallout 76 had very much of hyped launch, myself. I think most were disappointed with it from the off.

Haha, yes, looking at some vids I have seen examples of camps being built high up from just a very small base! I've noticed that building has been improved in terms of fitting flooring into the landscape; my latest camp is on the side of a steep hill and yet the flooring melds very well into the earth.

I'm terrible at shooting (and fighting full-stop, really) in the game but I love the building :-) .

I wouldn't worry too much. Yes your camp can get attacked by both enemies and players, but it's only happened to me rarely. During Fasnacht I must have had scores of people come to my base and it was only attacked once - at which point I changed server after it was clear several people wanted to PVP continually (even after I was killed twice) because repairing your camp takes more resources. Every single other encounter though was friendly!

With enemies I've rarely been near enough a spawn for it to matter. The Fasnacht base was actually always attacked by scorched from the town as it was right on the border, but I had two turrets that kept it perfectly defended. But other camps have never had any enemies come near them. It takes people being in the area to activate enemy spawns too, so you might trigger some enemies once a session when you fast travel to your camp and that's it. The only base I really had a problem with was that one in the mountain pass, as a scorchbeast attacked it and ended up levelling half of the walls and all of the power and defences... but I'm pretty sure they never turn hostile unless you're like over level 40 anyway!

Thanks, man. I'm gonna play this afternoon and go on the hunt for materials so that I can make more stuff for the camp :-) .

I hooked up with a random player this afternoon and we went and shot up a few things. It was cool as we went to a few places that I hadn't been to before. My aiming / shooting remains awful, so I have to practice it!

I've made a few more things for my camp. I have the power generator and a couple ceiling lights... but I can't see an option on how to link them up  :fp: . I'm sure that yesterday I saw something about wiring/links and I needed some copper; but I can't spot that now. Will have a look again this evening.

Build a power connector and put it on the ceiling or wall near your lights. Then hook it up with a wire to the generator by hovering over it in build mode and pressing triangle.

Hey, fellow Appalachians! Check out my new camp... please enjoy!

Thanks, Orange - will go and take another look at this later this evening :-) .

EDIT: Ah! I can get the power line to appear now, but I need more ceramic and copper to put the lines in. I'll go and hunt some down!

Dang it, the Atom Shop is ridiculously expensive with even small items way over-priced. "Special" offers only run for short periods, too, encouraging impulse purchases. It is made worse by the fact that many items appear to be pretty lousy, anyway. To complete the vibe, it uses it's own currency so as to confuse comparisons to real-world pricing.

And I'm thinking of buying a couple of things from it today because I can't resist  :fp: .

Good looking house jawa, definitely the best looking place you've had yet! Nice location too, you wouldn't even know it was the apocalypse :p

Also please don't spend any money on the atomic shop! If you're desperate for something, complete challenges in game to earn atoms - they updated the game to let you track them more easily now too. That's how I earned all the items I have from the shop, it makes them more worth it too :)

When I started playing I earnt a few atoms and spent them on two photo mode poses. In the past few days I earnt another 250 atoms and I used 'em on the metal door plan, which was "50% off" ( ).

Man, you've got loads of cool gear and you've down well to get it through gameplay :o .

Oh, and I did buy some Atoms to spend in the shop. #partoftheproblem #bethesdaapologist etc. I just couldn't resist a few goodies  :( .

... :o . I musta missed the previous free items. Hopefully I'll pick 'up these kinda offers now that I'm playing regularly.

Man, yeah, I'm not gonna deny that I did feel a little bit bad when buying 'em... I was annoyed with myself :fp: . I just *know* that the stuff is way, way overpriced. But I always get a little too enthusiastic when creating homes in games. If Animal Crossing on console ever went down the "pay for stuff" route, I don't think I'd survive it :shifty: .

But anyway, I'm logging onto 76 now and I think I'm gonna build a new home. Will have to get some water and food supplies first as the building may take some time :-) .

EDIT: Hmmn... am I able to "demolish" my current home and get all the materials back? I wanna start afresh and it seems that I have to break it down piece-by-piece? Will have a tinker.
