We will be getting our first proper look at the upcoming Wastelanders update on Tuesday!

Bethesda wrote: If you’ve been keeping up with Fallout 76 news, you probably know that we’ve been hard at work on our upcoming Wastelanders update. We’ve been regularly highlighting some of the new content coming to game, sharing new screenshots with you, and recently opened a private test server so that players outside our studio can join us in play testing (with more invites on the way soon!)

However, we would like to give you another peek at what’s to come in Wastelanders beyond a few new screenshots and words on a page. We’ve put together a new official trailer that we’re excited to unveil next Tuesday, February 4. Keep an eye on Fallout.com that day for full details, and we hope to see you then!

Bethesda has also shared details on the new "reputation" system that will be introduced. This will determine your relationship with characters from other factions in the wasteland. Click here to have a read.

The Wastelanders expansion will launch on 7 April! It's free for existing players.

The wait is almost over. Soon new faces will flow into the wilds of West Virginia and it will be up to you to welcome them with open arms (or loaded weapons). We are excited to share that Fallout 76 owners will be able to experience the Wastelanders expansion for free on April 7 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC through Bethesda.net.

Fallout 76 will also be coming to Steam on April 7, and Wastelanders will be available to anyone who purchases the standard or deluxe editions of the game.

In addition to introducing fully voiced NPCs to the world of Fallout 76, Wastelanders brings a brand-new main questline, new locations, new enemies, new weapons, a new reputation system and much more. Get ready for Wastelanders with a new trailer and learn more about how you’ll be able to play it on April 7.

So excited! :toot: .

Good to see you are still enjoying it Jawa. Its always fun to enjoy something in a non ironic way when so many others are bashing it.

I have never played it, but its always looked kind of interesting to me. I have liked some of the features i have seen on websites, where people are role playing very specific fringe character classes / types.

Yeah, it definitely isn't gonna suit everyone (no game does, of course!) but it ticks boxes for me in terms of exploration (the vast game world, complete with great weather effects and atmospheric sound) and creativity (camping, crafting and clothing). Some players concentrate more on the battling and mission completion; you're free to tackle it however you want to.

The game still kinda has a love/hate reception depending on folks' point of view and I can understand that. There seems to be a healthy core audience, though, and maybe Wastelanders will attract more people who favour the mission-type structure and human characters seen in previous Fallout titles.

I’m of the opinion that the game needs to become free to play somewhat imminently - give it a boost, an attempt at a last hurrah before the new consoles arrive.
The game has had the crap kicked out of it, but would I give it a go if it was free? Definitely.

It's an interesting thought, Buff - maybe going free-to-play would boost the player numbers. I'm not quite sure why it should be free, though? It has been available for pretty cheap prices over the past year (under fifteen quid on console and eight on PC) so I suspect that most folk keen to play it would have dived in. If it were free then the in-game purchasing or monthly payment scheme would have to be pushed harder.

The upcoming (free) Wastelanders expansion looks pretty neat but I suspect it won't dramatically alter the game play; at least, I hope it doesn't! F76 is different to previous Fallout titles and, for me, that's an okay thing. I'd love to see Fallout 5 expanding upon that single-player experience seen in 3, Vegas and 4, but 76 remains a multi-player focussed game... for better or worse according to taste!

You’re right, they’d push the in-game transactions even harder :( I’m a big fan of the series so it still feels a little strange that I haven’t played this. Maybe one day when they’ve finished adding to it.

Bethesda wrote: Plenty of new faces are going to make their way into Appalachia when our Wastelanders update arrives. This includes Factions, new human enemy groups, and a variety characters you will encounter while you’re out and about. It’s also going to introduce you to Allies, a special type of human NPC that will bring more life to your C.A.M.P. and offer activities for you to take part in every day.

There are a variety of Allies you will meet during your travels throughout the Wasteland. Some of them can be recruited to take up residence in your C.A.M.P. through conversations or by proving yourself in some way. Every Ally has a different personality that you can explore by speaking with them, as well as by completing the new daily quests they offer.

There are certain Allies who you can only meet by completing their unique introductory quest, like Beckett, a man trying to escape and atone for a troubled past. This initial task will begin a questline that takes you deeper into the character’s story as you aid them in their endeavors. After completing a named Ally’s story quests, they will begin offering daily quests that you can take part in to regularly pick up some additional XP and loot.

Image

When you convince an Ally that your home base is the hottest hangout in Appalachia, you will unlock a C.A.M.P. object that’s unique to that person. Build it to let them know that they can stick around and make themselves at home in your abode. For example, by recruiting Beckett, you will be able to construct Beckett’s Bar, where he will serve up drinks, lend an ear for conversations, or ask for a hand with something he needs done. Additionally, your Ally will offer an extra layer of security for your C.A.M.P., and they will help defend against any enemies who may come knocking.

Only one of these objects can be present in your C.A.M.P. at any given time, and you can swap it out with a different one whenever you’d like to spend time with another Ally you’ve recruited.

There’s nothing quite like returning home to a friendly face after an action-packed day of looting, shooting, and exploring. While an Ally will not tag along as you traverse the Wasteland, you can always expect them to be waiting for you at your C.A.M.P., so long as their unique object is constructed. So, kick off your shoes, get comfortable, and have a chat with your new roommate. The better you get to know them, the friendlier they will become toward you. Who knows? Maybe your budding friendship will lead to a post-apocalyptic romance.

Can't wait to have a buddy in my C.A.M.P.!

The camp part sounds fun for sure

Still want to know what happens if you shoot them though... maybe they'll just be marked as essential...

It does, Orange - I like the idea of having someone else living at the camp. I just built my camp afresh; I had been experimenting at a location that had both water and a junk extractor. It was pretty neat but not the smartest of places. I'm now back at a riverside spot on the far left side of the map; I have water but no extractor. Better views, though!

I think I did something a little... maybe... devious this afternoon.

I was at a train station and a high-level (102) player was taking *ages* being served by the vendor. I waited a while and tried using the waving and thumbs-up emotes, but didn't get any response. I waited a while longer.

Frustration crept in and I had an idea. Nearby was a mutant camp. I wandered over there and got their attention... and run back to the station with them following and shooting. I went into the station and shots followed me.

Now this woke the other player up! She rushed out out to tackle the mutants whilst I strolled over to the vendor and sold my water and stuff.

Hee! Devious  .

I just fell prey to my first experience of a trap camp.

The camp was tall - about four levels - and the vending machines were on the top floor. I wandered up to take a look but didn't notice that the floor looked a bit odd; it had a "confetti"-type covering. I soon discovered that it was hiding a hole and I fell through.

I landed on the ground level but on the edge of a high wall. The player had wanted me to fall directly into the zone as it had spikes there which you can't avoid. However, he jumped up to me (he had the jump mutation serum) and I then fell in. I died and so he collected my loot; thankfully I didn't have much on me at the time. I guess that, as he could jump high, he could collect the loot and jump out of the pit.

I will now be a little more cautious :-) .

The two above posts together sound like some real good karma

Never found a trap camp myself. Best thing to remember is that unless you're in combat, you should be able to fast travel away.

Ha! I did think that... and the karma took place so quickly, too! .

I believe that they're more prevalent in the PC version than on console. Yeah, I shoulda fast-travelled when I was standing on the edge of the trap; when I fell in, I was dead in moments - I don't think you can fast travel when taking damage. A lesson learned!

- - - - - - - - - -

I've decided that I'm gonna build a new camp today; over near The Top of the World. I've never camped in that area before and I'm a wee bit cautious about it as some beasties there are too tough for my current level (32)... but I will try to find somewhere where nothing too vicious spawns.

Gotta work out how to get / build a better weapon(s), too, as my current ones aren't very powerful.

Jawa has me blocked on Twitter? I was going to like his tweet.

I’ve never even directly tweeted/DM’d him, must have been enraged at something I said about gammons or something.

I blocked a number of people on Twitter about five months ago, Photek; not really due to anything personal but because I was tired of seeing so many political posts when I logged on to Twitter and because I was fed up with disagreements here in the forum. I'm not really interested in continuing that.

Anyway, back to Fallout 76!

Well, I did go and start building a new camp in that area... but too many mutant dogs spawned and I decided I didn't want to stay there. So - dang it! - I had to re-build a camp back in the area I was at (by the river on the far west-side of the map). I spent a few hours on this and I'm really happy with the result; I have added a guest-room which I haven't done before :-) .

Will take a few pics to share once I have finished!

The team behind the recent "silhouette" art competition for F76 made this vid containing all of the entries shared. It was cool to see so many folk participating and they're gonna do more photo theme initiatives in the future!

During a game session yesterday, I joined two events that were way above my level; one worked out well and the other not-so-much!

Firstly I joined the aftermath of a a nuke drop. I've done this a few times before; I haven't got power armour to wear and so I just don a hazmat suit - thus no physical protection but it does stop radioactive damage. I usually just run around trying to avoid enemies and taking the odd pot-shot, as my guns are pea-shooters compared to what is really required. I normally do okay at this but in this instance there weren't many other players tackling the beasties so I kept getting killed. Like, loads. I had to leave the event in the end as my stimpack supplies were getting hammered. Will try again another day!

And secondly, I stumbled across the Flatwoods Monster  . I had just fast-travelled to an area by the rail station at The Top of the World and it was right there! I'd only seen it once before and I'd kept my distance; this time it was close by and I started firing. It was level 50 and my weak weapons were barely scratching it, so I ran and climbed onto the roof of a camp that was nearby. I'd thought that the camp's turrets would attack the monster... but the Flatwood disables them all; a purple-ish haze is cast over them and they stop working  . I continued firing from my high vantage point but wasn't making much progress... and then a level 292 player in power armour arrived and helped me to tackle the monster. We kept firing (him doing tons of damage and me doing tiny amounts) and we downed it! I helped bring down a Flatwoods... felt awesome :-) .

Really need to sort out how to get / build better weapons, though. The ones I'm using are okay for beasties up to about level 18 but that's it.

Man, I love the community around this game. Through Twitter I've discovered folk who run screenshot theme events, make vids and share their adventures. This music vid is very well made, with video clips matching the lyrics.

Meanwhile, I've just moved again - my camp is at a spot where I can collect both water and junk. Still building at the mo', but will post a screen or two when it is complete.
