I hope so. I want this to be its own thing.

Were the original writing crew not involved I'd be expecting this to be a disaster but I have faith they can come up with something worthwhile.

AMC UPDATES ON “BETTER CALL SAUL”

NEW YORK, NY, June 19, 2014 – AMC today provided the first of several planned updates on the “Breaking Bad” prequel “Better Call Saul,” including the release of a first-look photo from the Albuquerque, New Mexico set where the widely-anticipated drama began production on its first 10-episode season earlier this month.

This update includes:

· “Breaking Bad” creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan is directing the “Better Call Saul” series premiere, and co-showrunning along with fellow “Breaking Bad” alum Peter Gould, creator of the Saul Goodman character.

· AMC confirmed it has already ordered a second season of 13 “Better Call Saul” episodes, for an initial total of 23.

· The network also announced a change of the series schedule with “Better Call Saul” premieres slated for early 2015 and early 2016, respectively.
Specific dates will follow, but the show will join “The Walking Dead” and “Talking Dead,” two of television’s top-rated hits, on AMC in the first quarter of each of the next two years.

· The first-look photo shows Gilligan and Gould from the set, with star Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman).

“Production on ‘Better Call Saul’ is underway and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series and today we happily confirm that our initial ‘Saul’ order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of ‘Breaking Bad,’ there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on ‘Saul’ and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.”

In addition to Gilligan and Gould, several “Breaking Bad” writers have returned to work on “Saul,” including Thomas Schnauz and Gennifer Hutchison. Bradley Paul has also joined the writing team, along with Gordon Smith, who was a writers’ assistant on “Breaking Bad.” “Better Call Saul” is executive produced by Gilligan, Gould, Mark Johnson (“Breaking Bad,” “Diner,” “Rain Man”) and Melissa Bernstein (“Breaking Bad,” “Rectify,” “Halt and Catch Fire”) with “Breaking Bad” alums Stewart A. Lyons and Schnauz as co-executive producers for Sony Pictures Television.

No, it was always going to be a series. They didn't even need to make a pilot, AMC ordered it straight to series for 10 episodes and now another 13 of them (before the first episode has even finished filming). They're either very confident or panicking since it's been so long since they've had a new hit. I'd like to believe it's the former but I suspect it's the latter.

Still, with so much of the original team behind this I'm cautiously optimistic it could actually turn out to be very good.

I think it'll be somewhat decent, if not as good as Breaking Bad.

Plot details -

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is "fixer" Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in 'Breaking Bad.' The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "Criminal lawyer." The series' tone is dramatic, wove with dark humor.

Cast details -

In addition to Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks reprising their roles as Saul Goodman and Mike Ehrmantraut, the full cast will include Michael McKean as Chuck, Rhea Seehorn as Kim, Patrick Fabian as Hamlin and Michael Mando as Nacho — "characters that will represent both legitimate and illegitimate sides of the law."

I actually think it will be a good show....

Not Breaking Bad good, but worth watching and certainly not "Joey with meth".

Prop for the show -

Thankfully, now that we know some details about the upcoming Better Call Saul, which sets the timeline back six years to when Saul was “Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny,” we can put this real live prop billboard that’s popped up in Albuquerque into some context. The billboard, which has been spotted on southbound I-25 in Albuquerque, displays a younger-looking Saul (who weirdly looks like Adam Sandler, if you ask me), with a full head of curly hair and regular lawyer-looking suit.

But the really, super important takeaway here, is that if you actually call the number on the billboard — WHICH I DID AND IS 100% REAL — you get the following message read by Bob Odenkirk in a ridiculous Irish accent, strongly suggesting that before his whole “Jew lawyer” gimmick, Saul was angling as an off-the-boat Irishman.

“Hello! You’ve reached the law office of James M McGill esquire, a lawyer you can trust. Kindly leave your information at the tone and Mr McGill will phone you promptly.”

I wonder how many people in Albuquerque have called that number actually needing a lawyer? :slol:

Only version I could find -

Better Call Saul music video: 'stick it to the man, justice for all!' – clip

Surreal new promo for Breaking Bad spinoff released, with singer Junior Brown telling the story of the ethically dubious lawyer, plus clips from the show

Breaking Bad fans will recall Negro y Azul, the narcocorrido song that opened season two with the tale of a ‘gringo boss’ named Heisenberg. Creator Vince Gilligan has been at the mixing desk again for spinoff Better Call Saul, releasing a new trailer for the show in the form of a music video for Better Call Saul: The Song.

The video (currently only available to view in the US) puts singer Junior Brown on a stage packed with surreal props, including ‘lawyer up’ signs, dancing girls and televisions showing snippets of Saul Goodman ads. The song itself is a Johnny Cash-esque fable describing scenarios in which one might wish to call Saul:

Blue lights start blinking and those handcuffs click / You know who to call and you’d better call quick”

The video also showed brief excerpts from the show itself, though as they showed lawyer Goodman in a variety of courtroom settings, there were no big reveals to be had.

Looking forward to it. 8-)

Although I think having 23 episodes (is that actually confirmed 100%?) for one season is overkill. I hope it doesn't make the writing suffer much.

It's 10 episodes for season 1 and 13 episodes for season 2.

Better clear your calendar: AMC has given Better Call Saul a debut date. On Feb. 8 at 10 p.m., the network will unveil the first episode of the Breaking Bad spin-off featuring Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman, the not-so-virtuous lawyer employed by meth king Walter White (Bryan Cranston). The following night at 10 p.m., the second episode will be unspooled. Subsequent episodes will air in the show’s regular Mondays-at-10-p.m. slot.
