What's been a common trend is that when alt coins like XRP do well once people either cash out or skim profits you see BTC and ETH make good gains.

I have nearly £300 in XRP at about 1.70 its now sat at nearly 2.40.

Ripple has had a lot of positive media coverage the last few days and banks are looking to use it.

A relatively small number of people will make a lot of money out of these new forms of currency and it seems that these could be extremely choppy conditions for folk dipping their toes into the water. If you're thinking about the possibilities now, you've probably already missed the boat.

Only put in what you're prepared to lose.

Exactly that :)

My regular saver is maxed out so I've got about £300 a month spare that I'm going to be using and if I lose that then so be it.

Yep, it’s the same as any gambling, it’s fine if it’s an amount you won’t really miss, it’s a big problem if you’ve gambled your house.

With these sorts of investments you need to buy low and sell high. I think the time for that was quite some time ago, there might be some upward blips in the future, but the opportunity to make big money was a couple of years ago.

To be fair I know a few financiers/investment bankers who reckon the FT's view isn't worth much on economic matters as if they were financial experts they'd be working in the city proper.

I totally agree this is a bubble though. The interesting point is at which stage it pops; some experts seem to reckon it could be ridden for years although I'm more inclined to believe the next few months will see a collapse.

Get yourself a Toast wallet for your phone. Dead easy to set up.

Which exchange did you use?

I used Coinbase to buy Bitcoin then sent them to Poloniex.com where I was able to buy the XRP.
I don't want to do anything rash but that is a pretty big increase on my (modest) deposit!

Nice what kind of fee if you don't mind me asking did you incur for moving BTC to the new exchange?

When I sent £95 worth of Bitcoin there was £17 fee. Today when I sent 4x as much there was a £15 fee. So it's something I need to investigate because that doesn't make any sense to me.

That's why you need to open a GDAX account asap. Very small fees. Better site too.

Of course, it could well be about to 'burst' or 'correct' in the next few weeks. But, I think it's perhaps the time of the year hasn't helped matters. I don't think we'll see as big of a correction as that graph shows, but who knows?

I think we're seeing people take profits out of BTC and placed them into ETH/LTC/BTCC etc. And know we're seeing people take profits out of those and into the 'emerging' coins like Ripple/Stellar etc.

I'd also argue that the FT and the financial community has a vested interest in keeping crypto down, so you got to keep a balanced view of it.

Cheers for the advice. I opened an account a few days ago but it's taking a while to get verified. Do they sell ripple and do they have cloud storage?

They only sell BTC/LTC/ETH and BTC cash, same as Coinbase.

They don't have ripple...yet (it's rumoured to go live on Coinbase/Gdax early new year). You'll need a Binance account to buy some of them. Pretty easy to sign up with - you can usually trade straight away. But I would wait until Gdax is verified before transferring from Coinbase - will cost you an arm and a leg.

I'm not sure about the cloud storage, still getting my head round all that stuff.

They've also started the graph at the beginning of last year to make it fit, instead of 5 or so years ago. There was no 'first sell off' last year and it certainly wasn't in a stealth phase either.

Yeah they are ignoring a lot of history as pretending it started in 2017, yeah it is dipping but if you look a the longer history it has tended up for a very long time.

It's you first mentioning it that me take a punt. I read how it has the backing of some banks that made me think it could have a solid reason for growing and I bought a little before Christmas thinking it would go up in the new year - but people and the press took notice quicker than I thought. Google led me to a post on reddit by a guy who wrote that he and his dad put $4K into it whilst it was at .24c mark, they could end up being quite rich. It makes you think that as an investor, whatever new currency comes along it's worth putting a few quid on it because if it takes off you will do well. But I'm just learning about this stuff!

Don't think it has been mentioned but if anyone wants a bitcoin faucet to get tiny amounts (and potentially bigger amounts) for free go here https://freebitco.in/?r=556592

I've been a member for yonks every hour to can roll and you can get up to $200 in BTC as a reward, they are funded by ads and a gambling higher or lower game but it's legit and you will get free BTC but generally at a bastard slow rate, but something to play about with like, they also have a bank account feature where if your balance is over .003 you get interest of 4% a year applied daily.

Declaration:. I have used my referral link as they have a referral scheme, if you use it cool if not just take the ?r=556592 off the URL :)

Rumours suggest Ripple is going to be added to Coinbase on 8/1/17.

May not be true but there is still time to jump on.
