Very pleased with this result. The american people have done the right thing, and I think the world will think better of them for it. Barack Obama is a fantastic person to listen to, and unlike Dubya, appears to actually have a clue about what's going on.

The Daily Show & The Colbert Report crossover 2008 election special was good.

Are both More4 and FX showing both shows then? Or was just one single big special?

When do we find out O'Reillys reaction? Should be golden.

There's a nice graphic on the New York Times website that shows how only 22% of all the counties increased in voting Republican from 2004, everywhere else had gains for the Democrats.

Couldn't be happier with the result. Myself and my fiancee got up at 4am to watch the result. His victory speech was excellent. Have to say though, he has an incredibly hard job to live up to all the expectation.

McCain was suitably gracious in defeat. It is just such a shame that he resulted to dirty tactics at times.

Agree with Madness, can't wait to see O'Reillys reaction! If only because the celebrations seemed just as aimed at celebrating the end of the Bush era as they were with the Obama one beginning.

Well I stayed up until 5.30am watching this last night. As a black man I am ecstatic with Obama's win just for the historical

Just a few points in reply to some posts in this thread

Like already said although 97% of black American's voted Obama, they would have also voted for Hilary Clinton as they traditionally vote Democrats. The main difference is that Obama got a lot more blacks to vote this time round than normally would.

Obama didn't win this because of the black vote but actually because of the 18-35 year old white middle class vote. He won states that could only be delivered to him because of the white vote

If Jar Jar Binks had been the democrat nominee he would have won as Americans have just had enough of the Republican Party. There was no way any Republican was going to win this election thanks to George W.

Obama is actually got a very hard job in front of him with the economy, the expectations around the world but also the expectations of black America. Some people think he’s some sort of messiah that’s come to deliver blacks to the promise land. Sadly it’s not going to work that way. I bet that in 2 years someone like Jesse Jackson or Rev All Sharpton will be saying that Obama has done enough for black people.

Quote of the year from that article?

Hence, when Obama does disappoint, the reaction will not produce anything worthwhile, but simply crude racist ugliness. At its worst, a string of white supremacist nuts and disgruntled ex-jarheads will be arrested plotting to assassinate him, and one will succeed, sparking not just pogroms but the legalised dispossession of a white America paralysed by fear and guilt

Most black people who voted Obama chose him for race, the majority were first time voters who wouldn't ever vote for a white man.

However, Barack Obama is the most intelligent politician I've ever heard! The WHOLE world will slowly begin to see that all men are born equal and intelligence is equel. Black Americans will feel more positive, will be motivated to succeed in life the proper way, and the last few racial divides in America will die.

40 years ago if a black person was to sit on a front seat on a bus, he'd be dragged out by the police and beaten to a pulp in the street.

Now a "black" person has been voted by a multicultural America (that's if you discount white inbreds in states like Texas) to be their leader. Races will mix even more than ever now, mixed race shall become the majority ethnicity over there in 200 years, and America could even start to rid the world of racism through respect.

Are the BNP even aware that pretty much all of the Democrate congress is white?

Fair enough they picked fault in Islam, but now they're back to the old days of saying anyone who isn't white is a monkey. Do they not realise that America's ideals are what makes them the most powerful country in the world? White people only dominate this world because they got to the good resources first (I'm talking hundreds of thousends of years ago).

I think that is possibly the biggest thing to come out of this. Like it or not, race has always been an issue. Barack Obama now has the opportunity to silence racists once and for all, not just in America, but across the globe. No doubt about it, this is a MASSIVE step forward.

Sorry, what are you basing this on? The vast majority of African Americans traditionally vote Democrat anyway.

What is that, exactly? How is it differant or superior to the way 'Black Americans' 'succeed in life' currently?

Sorry about all the questions, but your post intrigued me.

It finally brings real hope that all people may one day see through skin colour and judge people only on their character.

I've been on this site before out of my own curiosity as a black man. This article is a perfect example of how the BMP spin and lie to to influence their supporters. What a load of crap. They are actually blaming Obama for being part of the organisation that started the credit crunch

Also when are these people going to realise that whites will never be the minority in the US or the UK. Take the UK. Outside of major cities the minority population is tiny. Black's make up about 2.5% of the UK population. Add the other minorities like Asian, Oriental etc and you'll be lucky to more than 12% of a population of 60 million and yet the BNP think whites will soon be a minority :? :fp:

1. Yes, most African American's never vote but they turned up in their millions yesterday, I'd even go as far to say that the democrates put forward a black candidate to take advantage of the black population to beat the Republicans.

2. African American's have it hard from the day they're born, their was an interview today discussing how up until now a black child saying he wanted to be president would be laughed at, not by mockery, but because of the dispair. They're more likely to be seduced by crime. Not any more though, now they will be seen as inferior to no one. True equality has arrived in America.

This doesn't matter though, this morning I watched Obama's speach live with a lump in my throat and when I saw Jesse Jackson's face I lost it completely, can't remember the last time I cried that, my bottom lip was shaking and everything.

Today is a beautiful day for people, unity, freedom and the world, words can't describe it.
