Blues.

I had a longer post which went into the little more detail I know, but ended with me admitting my lack of knowledge, being no music theorist. But, you know, Jazz originates from African music and has had a pretty hefty influence on lots of contemporary music, so it's not quite a facepalm moment.

Not quite, but the blues came before jazz maaaaan.

Woo! Reason beats facepalm! This is new era for GRcade.

But you were trying to be clever and got the wrong genre of music.

Not just the best rap album ever made, it's one of the best albums ever made period. Nas at his mesmeric best.

Shame he couldn't be more consistent with quality.

Aye. His past two albums have been a bit hit and miss. Streets Disciple, whilst no Illmatic, is his most recent album of any real quality in my opinion.

You might as well put Soulja boy in there if 'Fiddy Cent' is in the list. Awful stuff.

Soulja boy is a banana split with zero talent. Im suprised no real life gangsters or proper gangster rappers havent killed him yet. He thinks he is sooooo "hard and gangster" in his "superman dat ho" video its hiliarous as he comes across as a 1st class banana split.

Didn't he create that track in his room when he was something like fourteen? I don't care if you don't like it or you think it's not 'good' music, it broke into mainstream sales, made him a lot of money and got him the recognition he needed to continue into the industry. Zero talent?

I happen to like motown and rap from the 80's and early 90's and think a lot of what is out now is dull and uninteresting, I'm not saying it will always be like that as everything ebbs and flows, there are some exceptions, things that stand out but they run the risk of getting drowned out by pap just like all other music types.

I have a major soft spot for folk music but most people don't like it or if they do they tell you to listen to Dillon (although good not the second coming) but I prefer some of the newer stuff out there.

Old doesn't equal better just like new doesn't equal better, if it clicks it clicks.

THAT'S what I was trying to think of that was the Northern Soul thing, 'cos I know Wigan Pier is the mingin dance music for horrible charvers and scum, but I knew there was Wigan-something that was good! Thank you!

YouTube is your friend when it comes to Wigan Casino.

I like black music, but I'm integrated into black culture now, so I suppose I have too.

I don't like 50 Cent though, although his music is technically good, it seems that he just raps about things that he thinks will make the most money as opposed to telling a good story or carrying a message.

Kanye West is probably my favourite at the moment, although Timbaland's last album was superb.
