I'm shite at Contra but have always rather liked the series so this has piqued my interest. I hate to sound tight however £16.99 sounds a bit steep to me, a tenner and I'd probably have bit, gonna wait for a sale as £17 for a game I'll enjoy but likely never beat is a lot to pay.

Wow, that second screenshot looks exactly like a re-skinned Super Probotector level. I approve.

Added this to my Switch watchlist as £17 is a bit steep for a game that can be completed in a couple of hours (if you're good, which I'm not, but still...). Definitely love the look of it though.

Anything below £10 and I'll likely bite.

Downloaded, but I’m way too deep into Hollow Knight to try another side-scroller at the moment.

Blazing Chrome delivers the Contra spiritual sequel we've been waiting for

So, Blazing Chrome is flawless on PS4 and Xbox One, and still great on Switch - but the issues it has have been identified and are being worked on, and the good news is that the Limited Run physical release of the game will have the fixes included on the art.

Looking at the big picture, I feel Blazing Chrome successfully delivers everything it was designed to do. This is a game worthy of the Contra name and based on my experience with the official sequel - Contra Rogue Corps, which I saw at E3 - this is the game that should have taken up the mantle. Thankfully, even without the franchise backing, Blazing Chrome is just as brilliant. If you're a retro enthusiast - or even if you just remember having a great time with Contra back in the day - I strongly recommend that you give this a look. Yes, it's challenging and difficult to master, but keep at it. Once you learn the game, it truly shines.

I just watched the Digital Foundry vid and the game looks terrific; lovely Mega Drive-styled presentation, intense action and a great soundtrack. It's interesting to see the Switch analysis and I agree with John Linneman; I think the sprite-based flames look better than the particle-based ones.

The difficulty of this style of game was a concern for me but it's good to know that there is an "easy" option.

It doesn't show it in the DF vid but the game's intro is wonderful, with the simple panel-styled graphics and "digitised" speech making me think it really was a MD title! For me, it's a representation of a classic 16-bit styled game brought up to date with more modern approaches.

Mega Drive, eh? I just assumed it was inspired by the SNES Contra game.

It's a kinda homage to all Contra and run n' gun titles, although the slightly darker colour palette and the key of the music learns towards the Mega Drive.

I'm hoping that you, Jazzem or Jeff get it so that I can see you play through it on stream  .
