Amazing photographs. Nicely done. I read this last night at 4.am on my PS3 and ended up having a weird dream where everywhere was radioactive and I could taste it. :?

Really amazing pictures and sounds like a fantastic trip - must have been so eerily quiet there!

On a truly geeky note, I'm really surprised how COD4 has captured the same feel of the place as you have!

Brerlappins little hat wrote:first post updated with the rest of the pics! Yeah it was one hell of an experience. By the end i really felt conflicted tho, it was like i felt guilty, for me it was an experience of a lifetime, but for the 20,000 people who lost their homes it wasnt fun, and an estimated 300,000 people in total have been killed of affected by the radiation. I wont forget it for a long time tho. Id advise anyone whos thinking about it to just do it tho. Getting there was such a ******* nightmare, but in the end, it was more than worth the hassle.

Emily, we stayed for about 3 - 4 hours. Apparrently its fine for a day to stay there, but hang around too long and you wont be leaving! The scariest part is when you leave, you have to go through decontamination. Its like a turnstile at a football ground, you stand on it, put your hands on the side, and if youre clean, you get a green light and the little gate opens. If youre not clean....it doesnt open
Mini E if youd like to translate any of this feel free, im curious to know myself :D

You've just made a potentially boring day very interesting indeed, BLH. Awe inspiring photos. How long were you in Ukraine for and how long did the actual tour last?

EDIT: I see you've already answered those questions. My bad!

Awesome video, but it totally needs more Sigur Rós. Untitled 1, to be specific.

Very nice video, it's still amazing me how that many people got out alive, just think of the children sitting in school that day like any other when suddenly being told to get out as quickly as they can. It's like looking into a massive time capsule in some of those pictures, where nothing has changed since that faithful day with stuff left exactly how it was on the day.

Great pictures BLH (will watch the video in a bit). It's somewhere I'd really like to go myself to see, thought I'd probably be too scared to go. Did you just go alone BLH? Or with friends? And how many other people were on the tour with you? Also what's with the (freaky) graffiti, who's responsible for that? Gutted you didn't get a photo of the freaky clown train though. Did you see it?

 Sorry for overloading you with questions.

freaky clown train?? never heard of it!
Yeah i went alone. [arnie voice]I VERK ALOONE[/arnie]. I realised that noone was ever gonna go with me, so i said strawberry float it, im going on my own! It was either go on my own, or wait forever for someone to do it with me.

I'm far too much of a pussy to go all the way there on my own. Hope I can talk someone into coming with me one day, sure I can persuade someone.

As for freaky clown train. This is freaky clown train (sure it originated from that website which had all the chernobyl tour pictures on):

The main bit of the sign (the yellowish bits, I can't read the small bits) says: "Complex *the second word I don't know, and I'm talking to a russian friend who also does not recognise the word and she is russian!* vector

Image

The word "молодцы " on the left means "Well done!"

on the right "новости" means News

The subheading below that means " Well done for searching" or something...

Image

Top orange bit means something like "Signal, Warning, signalling of OCD and actions done according to it's warnings" - This may be a bit wrong...

Image

First line I can't read the first word... it's not all there. Its something like "teachers in schools should teach children rules of using means of protection and actions according to the signals of civilian defence
or civil defence" .. I needed a translator for 5 or 6 words of that... so it might be a bit out
