Shame the Telegraph gallery didn't really pimp GRcade until right at the end.

You should have watermarked the photos:

Very interesting pictures. As someone else said, a few of the items that you saw were probably put there deliberately but it's still fascinating and slightly harrowing to see it in it's current state.

Also congratulations on your 15 minutes of internet fame but hopefully none of the NeoGAF dimwits sign up here.

Is there any way in without a guide? I'd love to sneak in at night, even if it means cancer and being scared to death. strawberry float actually, think how scary it must be. I don't even like being alone in my own home at night.

If it's anything like any other part of Ukraine, yes you can get in without a guide, hell there are some people that have actually returned to live there in the farming villages outside Priyprat.

Has anybody tried pimping this thread out to other news organisations or TV shows? I can imagine this is the sort of thing the One Show or Richard and Judy would go crazy over. :D

Lets get BLH on telly!

Instead of "touring" a man-made disaster that has killed and injured thousands of people and supporting the faux governments of the surrounding countries, you could have donated your ~700euro to a charity that works very hard to get children born after the accident who are suffering from cancer, born deformities, and many other problems, out of the country and to Europe, the US, and Canada for testing.

i hope you're proud of yourself.

I'm sure he appreciates the educational experience more. Tell me, do you give all of your leisure money to charity?

great pics.

if you go to btjunkie.com and type in "Inside Chernobyl's Sarcophagus" it is a documentary about the scientists work inside the sarcophagus. really good, loads of footage of the inside, including where the uranium melted the sand and made lava

Excellent pics mate, nearly shows the eeriness of the silence there.

The publicity you've caused will have helped Chernobyl and the area immensely, Of course you could have donated the 700 to them yourself, but instead you've gained them millions! Nice one.

I had to register just to post this. Any more pics? I have many of chernobyl and the area from another site, when I find the link I'll post it here :)

If you can't see the value in this, then you are blind. These images are educational and enlightening to those that have viewed them. This Burlappen chap didn't have to share his experiences with us and certainly didn't ask for them to be highlighted in the way that they have. It is clear though that the reason they have attracted so much attention is because the story of what happened there is so affecting that it demands such attention.
