Last weeks South Park was about China and its "influence" on Western Culture and has now been banned in China.

This Blizz subreddit has been made private by the mods and the Hearthstone sub has gone apeshit.

Cool moves Blizz.

people will forget this in a month and blizzard will continue to reap untold dividends from their asian markets lol [insert boogieman here] is great

Yea it's capitalism's fault.

Way to stay focused on a specific problem there, Taf. Good job. A+.

Also too sensitive on my part.

EDIT; As in, I was too sensitive.

I mean I don't think I was wrong, and I'm not entirely sure what I said to earn your ire, but I've changed it regardless.

I mean, I 100% support the boycotts and bad press that Blizzard will hopefully get for this, but the problem isn't fundamentally that Blizzard is run by uniquely evil people, is it? Critiquing the profit motive itself is a perfectly valid take on this, isn't it?

I was being too sensitive.

'strawberry float China' doesn't need putting into larger context, for me.

Just; strawberry float China.

Oh yeah absolutely, you don't need to qualify "strawberry float China". Definitely strawberry float China.

Yea, sorry, too close to home for me (literally) to be objective.

China being China is not a Capitalism vs whatever position for me. It's China shooting kids as old as my students on the streets by my actual house.

I don't want the 'strawberry float China' debate to be discussed in any terms other than 'strawberry float China'.

Because strawberry float China.

No mate, that's a totally valid perspective. I think the anti-capitalist perspective on this is more or less "the profit motive forces corporations based even in ostensibly 'nice' countries to go along with the whims of horrible totalitarian dictatorships", where implicit in that is definitely "China is a horrible totalitarian dictatorship".

The two halves of this story are clearly Blizzard being greedy spineless cowards and China being cartoonishly evil, and I think both need to be talked about.

I know my point of view is valid, my girlfriend couldn't leave our block of flats because riot police beat her back in.

I know how valid my point of view is.

I'm not asking for your permission. I'm telling you that framing a social issue that spans multiple social and economic positions as 'Capitalism = teh bad' is both ridiculous and ignores literally every bit of context around it.

Yes, this particular Chinese tantrum is entirely capitalistic on Blizzard's part, trying as they are to not hurt their Chinese income. But don't think this is evidence that capitalism is bad.

It's that growing, aggressive and probably winning Totalitarianism is bad.

My local train station isn't on fire because of Capitalism. My students are not joining protests amongst whom one got shot point blank and nearly died because of capitalism. It's because of unchallenged authoritarianism.

Do not confuse the two.

@Skarjo: I never said (or meant to imply) any of that pal, and I totally agree with you.

I totally support the Hong Kong protestors, they are fighting a brave battle against authoritarianism. Sorry if I gave the impression I didn't!

On one hand: of course.

On the other: this is it? This is the best Blizz employees could do?
