On one hand: of course.

On the other: this is it? This is the best Blizz employees could do?

It amazes me how so many people think that low-level employees can afford to make big stands against the actions of their employer, or even leave said employer. When you're living paycheque to paycheque, then yes, that is the best you can do.

I don't think many people employed at Blizzard are in that situation tbh. But I do realise it's easy to look at this from the outside and go 'why aren't they doing more?' I mean, in the states this is why unionisation is so demonised as it would give employees the rights to have more organised protests. But look, for example, to the Riot walkouts or the protests at Blizz-Activision in France due to employment tactics. It is possible and this is, I think, a big enough issue to warrant an organised reaction.

Hit blizzard with massive bills by mass submitting GDPR requests for European users.

Blizzard could have just said/done nothing and in all likelihood China wouldn't have done a thing to them.

Even if it looked like China were going to make a stink, Blizzard could have just made some generic non-descript statement like "Our player community does not necessarily speak for or represent the views of Blizzard Inc"

Going to do that GDPR request when I get home.

There are two ideal outcomes for Blizzcon,

1) Nobody turns up
2) Everyone that turns up is in pro-Hong Kong or anti-China shirts and every single question is about Hong Kong.

Qikz has been awfully quiet about all this.

Would be interesting to see his take on things due to his Starcraft casting.

Why the hell are Blizzard doing this?
Surely they can do what pretty much every other company ever has done and simply say "The views of our players or staff members playing the game don't necessarily represent those of Blizzard itself!" and boom, problem solved.

I honestly wouldn't blame him for not expressing an opinion given, you know, what happened to the other guy.

Update on the Apple entry from that tweet list - they did let the app in to the appstore, but then they banned it again:

Apple removes app used in Hong Kong protests after pressure from China

Apple has removed HKmap.live, a crowdsourced mapping app widely used by Hong Kong residents, from the App Store. The app and accompanying web service has been used to mark the locations of police and inform about street closures during the ongoing pro-democracy protests that have engulfed Hong Kong this year.

Right, Karl and I are going to lock this thread after China have offered us a generous amount of money to help with hosting costs.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
