Hah, his swings and hitboxes are so hard to dodge.

Had a few problems with the Pthumerian Elder in a late chalice dungeon. But I think overall the Headless Blood Letting Beast and Loran Abhorrent Beast were harder than anything else, even the Cursed Defiled bosses. They're middle-sized beasts so you have to lock on, but because they're so fast it becomes a struggle with the camera as well as the boss.

So, this arrived. Took me a few goes, and about 3000 lost blood echoes, but I got to the third lantern. Got the Cleric Beast on the second try, although the Kotaku review had spoiled his weakness which made it a bit easier. It was still a bloody slog of a fight though.

Quick question: what's the difference between Skill and Strength? Both seem to increase attack.

Got up to the cleric beast and died, but had unlocked the shortcut beforehand thankfully!

Really starting to enjoy this - the game is all about dodging, risk and reward and feels a bit more rewarding than dark souls due to the nature of the game. The enemies really are quite imaginative aren't they?

Will play this some more over the long weekend if i have the time. I must also say the game does look pretty stunning at times and is definitely a current gen title. Well done sony for making this and exclusive as the series could be bigger than dark souls. There is room for both thankfully!

Good job! I spent some time levelling up after getting to the Cleric Beast the first time.

Did you head into the sewer area near the two Nether Beasts on the bridge? Worth exploring round there if not.

Check me out giving Bloodborne advice!

More in depth advice on scaling:

If you look at a weapon's stats you'll see some letters beside the icons for Strength, Skill, Blood and Arcane. These are scale ratings. The higher the rating the more powerful the weapon gets when you level up that stat.

For example if you have a weapon with D scaling in STR and you level it you might get +1 damage. If it's B rating then it might be +3 for every level.

When you upgrade a weapon at the workbench you boost 2 things: the base damage and the scaling. These are the two damage stats (for example 120+43) and the first is tied to the weapon, the second to your stats.

There are orher things to think about such as soft caps on stats to stop you blindly pumping points in, but you're best working out how you want to do things yourself. Nobody minmaxes with an ideal build first playthrough.

In NG+ it seems strange you cant level a +10 weapon further... I presume you need to just chuck the extra echos into whatever the weapon scales with for the extra damage needed to counter the extra enemy health? Its suprising how little damage seemingly a +10 weapon does, just to the basic yarham enemies after going NG. At some point you'd imagine it will do sod all damage once you start getting to say NG+5 and up etc. Unless im being really stupid and missing the obvious here? Does an NG hunter axe, for example, do better damage then the hunter axe you started with on first playthrough? I should probably look at that! Im only half assed going through NG here though, unsure if ill stick with it or not. I think once witcher 3 is around i might be done with bloodbourne then. It would have been cool if it randomly mixed up items or enemy placements on the NG though, or just soemthing to suprise you rather than the fairly lame damage increase of the enemies and nothing else.

Pretty sure a ng weapon is the same as a ng+ weapon. And the Miyazaki games generally don't mix things up, that was a DSII thing, and along with a few interface changes like the next level cost on the stat screen, something I think would have been nice to borrow from that team.

I think you need to rely on getting better gems from Chalice Dungeons to make your weapons better. Can't be arsed with that.

You know what. strawberry float Father Gasgoine. Took me all strawberry floating day to beat that strawberry floating twat, and only then because I accidentally threw a molotov at his final form.

Still. Yay!

Nothing wrong with molotovs. Anything goes in Souls, so well done! :D

ive just stared NG++ and I cheesed him behind a grave stone with the +10 holy blade for most of the fight. He's vicious as a wolf though, 90% of my health in one hit at level 180.

This isn't a souls game :toot:

Doesn't the game tell you right at the start to do whatever it takes to win? I'm sure there's a bit of text that says to cheese as much as you can.

Gazza easy mode: parry (visceral attack) his flurry attack. Apparently that is why he exists; to teach you, in a roundabout way, the awesomeness of said ability.

Beat NG+ Rom first try, piece of piss with bolt paper and Ludwig's Holy Blade +10.

I'll never get tired of doing the "shhhhhh" gesture after killing invaders. The Old Hunter's Bone with the Blade of Mercy feels a bit overpowered.

The defiled chalice dungeon is gooseberry fool. Half health against dickhead bosses the one hit you >.<

Last dungeon before pthlumeru queen though.

Currently facing off against the witch(es) Of Hemwick. Nice change of page for a boss fight. It's also a nice opportunity to farm and level up. I'm gaining about 15k echoes from Lamp to boss, should help a wee bit.

Is it bad that I don't want to go on holiday tomorrow?

strawberry float this game is good. Lost about 7000 echoes last night trying to rush back to a point of death and I damn near snapped the controller in half. But it was my fault. I rushed and made mistakes and the game punished me.

I can't stop thinking about getting back to it.

Witch...done.

I went back to the Unseen Village to try again and aced it. The feeling of empowerment as you continue in this is just fantastic. Now I get to play with runes and have a +6 Ludwig Blade.

Might just let the family head off without me.
