Okay, I just need to git gud at jumping down to the doorway then obviously!

Think I've found 3 survivors so far, need to go back and get them though - I can remember where two of them are but I can't for the life of me recall where I found the third one now!

I was passing back through the area to the side of the Cathedral last night and some of the people who previously talked to you at the little chapels down there now just grunt and scream, which is slightly concerning me and part of the reason why I think I need to get a shift on!

People you can talk to/interact with normally have a red light outside their window/door.

At this point of the game I think you may only have been able to encounter 5 of them

Yeah I picked up on the red light clue as to who you could interact with. Most seem to make some kind of noise when you are nearby as well which clues you in to look around for a door or window.

Speaking of encounters at windows - I spoke to one guy relatively early in the Woods who has given me some stone and a cryptic message about visiting somewhere to the side of the Cathedral. I'm hoping this will have something to do with the door that I couldn't previously get through because some invisible ghost/monster thing appears and kills me whenever I go near it!

Another fun bash on this last night! Spent a while looping around some of the areas I have been in for a while, trying to see if there was anything I have missed and locate any humans to send back to Iosefka.

Figured I need to start spoilering stuff more in here as I wouldn't want to ruin anyone else's first experiences (I'm sure Jawa will get back to this soon right!? ;) )

Now that the game has moved on to a "night" phase it seems that some of the people who were talking to me coherently in the past have gone a bit... feral. Chatting at doors and windows is now often met with lots of screaming, grunting etc One dude sounded like he was turning into a chicken!

Sent a few survivors back to Iosefka who rewarded me with some Blue Elixirs which is nice. I then headed back to the Forbidden Woods and found a path through a cave which led me back to Central Yharnam near the clinic and found a window which took me inside. Hmm. No sign of any of the people who I had sent here, just some shambling big headed creatures that don't seem that interested in me and who bear something of a resemblance to the statues lining the stairs in the Cathedral. Interesting. The clinic has a few trolleys with dead versions of these creatures on them as well. Bumped into Iosefka who seemed very displeased that I had got inside her clinic and asked me to leave and that we should continue as we were, which as far as I can make out is that I send her human survivors and she infuses them with blood which turns them into these creatures... Very interesting.

(also found an invitation in the clinic that was addressed to me, looks like I need to go grab a carriage! Is this to do with the DLC or something?)

I left the clinic and Iosefka alone for now, hopefully I can dig further into what is going on with her - I assume if I had pressed further she would have attacked me. So I thought I would go back and see if the stone the guy in Forbidden Woods gave me was of any use in getting past the crreepy ghost/monster thing which killed me to the right of the Cathedral, and it was! I still get grabbed by the monster but instead of death I just get sent to... a lecture building! Lots of blob monsters that look like former faculty/students of the place around, easy enough to dispose of. Found a few items that seem interesting but I haven't stopped to investigate them much yet. There looked to be an upstairs to the lecture building but I couldn't spot an obvious way up there, possibly it is behind the door I can't open because some creepy dude with a massive head is stood behind it, being all creepy and the like!

Leaving the lecture building seems to have whisked me off to another new location the Nightmare Frontier. Lots of beasts and giants throwing bloody giant boulders at me here, but also some nice things to locate - bagged a few useful looking runes which should come in handy. Also got shoved over a cliff edge by some unseen arsehole (getting shoved down holes seems to be a bit of a theme for the series if this and DS1 are anything to go by! )

Eventually made my way to the boss of the area Amygdala - basically a massive, long legged monstrosity. First boss in a while that I didn't take down on my first try, although I got within one bloody hit of doing it! The later phase of this one was a bit annoying as she (I'm assuming it's a she) rips two legs off and uses them for extra reach which means you really need to stay on your toes and either time your dodges well or stay right back! Main challenge was timing the attacks right as she only seems to take much damage to the head and only lowers that after doing certain attacks. Actually scratch that, the main challenge was the strawberry floating snagging geometry of the arena, so many bits where you get blocked when you should be able to keep moving and so end up taking damage! :x

Killing that boss didn't really seem to achieve much - the area beyond the arena where you fight just has another lamp in it. I'll have a bit more of an explore on my next play but it might be time to head back to the Forbidden Wood and see where that leads!

Such fun!

Nope the DLC is something else. It's pretty hard so most recommend doing it just before last boss - we'll give you hints when near.

Bloodborne's "main" path is comparatively short. There's lots of "side paths" that are nice little areas, and level you up. e.g. Hemwick Lane. Don't be surprises if an area seems complete without letting you progress anywhere

You can go back and read the spoiler between me and Saladman now - he was asking if you'd gone into Isofeka's clinic this way, while I was just askign if you talked to her/knew sending people was an option

Doesn't beating Amygdala reward you with a chalice... it's been a while since I played this and my memory is a bit hazy.

Ah yes you're right I did get a chalice. On that note - I've spotted that these seem to be connected to the second set of graves/shrines in the Hunters Dream but haven't really explored that option yet. Something about performing rituals to unlock dungeons?

I never made it past the Chalice dungeon with the half HP gimmick. I just could't kill one of the bosses Watchdog of the Old Lords

Yeah.

Chalice Dungeons are something just in BB - I can't think of similar in Dark Souls. Below is based on memories

In a Chalice dungeon you are exploring the ruins underneath Yharnam. (Hey...weren't they connected to the lore?).

They are - basically - dungeons. Rooms/Monsters/Bosses. Don't get excited about complicated areas. (Although there are new bosses)

Chalices need a chalice (duh) and some ingredients.

There's normal ones which have set ingredients, set layouts, set enemies and set rewards. This is the "progression" side.

There's "root" chalices where it'll take the type of chalice you have, the type of ingredients and then procedural generate a dungeon (layout, enemies, boss) just for you. (Although if you found a good one, you can save and share the code. You'll see people online sharing them. e.g Want the Uncanny (basically upgraded) Thread Cane - use code XXXXXXXXXX)

Chalices are odd in terms of level (all the progression ones have a set level so you might want to to them as you can to keep them as the challenge intended)

That was one of those joyless irritating fights for me. Lock on useless and far too big to keep track of without it. A shame because they are cool as strawberry float to look at. I remember making it to the area thinking it was lovely to finally end up somewhere different (wonderfully alien landscape) but in the end came away quite disappointing by it. Plus its got those things in it. You've not mentioned them so I can only assume you managed to miss them. There is one in one spot that is so stupidly placed that I swear I died more times to that then anything else in the game. Seem to remember it was guarding an item that was pointless to.

Are the things you mention the ones with the big heads that sing and cause you to build up Frenzy? Or maybe the squid type things that live in the poison water? I explored the area relative fully but I know there are one or two bits I want to go back to poke my head around more...

It is a really nice area visually, and a nice change from the gothic/grime of the rest so far!

Sounds interesting, I might check this out a bit more next time then. Is it worth diving into any of this now or is it safe to leave it until later?

Are the things you mention the ones with the big heads that sing and cause you to build up Frenzy? Or maybe the squid type things that live in the poison water? I explored the area relative fully but I know there are one or two bits I want to go back to poke my head around more...

It is a really nice area visually, and a nice change from the gothic/grime of the rest so far!

Sounds interesting, I might check this out a bit more next time then. Is it worth diving into any of this now or is it safe to leave it until later?

I forgotten how most of it works tbh.

I think the random stuff can scale for ever - but the "progression" dungeons don't scale at all, so if you leave them till later you'll waltz through the earlier ones

But you can also leave them entirely. It's combat focus side progression, not world exploring like the rest. If you don't like the appear of combat heavy mini dungeons just skip

Such fun!

Can confirm that they dont. :shifty:

Shush! He listed it's weaknesses (in PvP). It's not easy mode!

Haters gonna hate, me and my axe are doing just fine thanks :P

Happy to take recommendations on weapons you would prefer me to use. If you want me to switch to using the cane then by all means I will do so and still ace it ;)
