Boiler Setting Debate: Are you a Jez or a Mark?

Been rewatching some Peep Show for the billionth time recently and just revisited this classic interaction regarding the setting of the boiler temperature:

My rational brain tells me that the obvious right position is Mark's but if be lying if I denied I've had feelings more toward Jez's position in the past when it comes to thinking you can "outsmart" an appliance! :lol:

At one time, I was probably a Jez but nowadays I'm an absolute Mark.

I can't remember what it was but I said something last week that was absolutely a Mark Corriganism and I shuddered in fear at what I've become.

Oh that was it! We went for a walk and found a quiet, local park and my wife commented that it'd be a nice place to have a picnic. Then I started explaining how it was a bad idea because children on bikes might come and terrorise us and, as an adult, I wouldn't be able to stop them for fear of being accused of anything :lol:

I am sadly a Mark IRL. It's scary how similar I am in many ways to that character but whatever.

Actually, I kind of use Jez's logic with my oven. If I want it to be gas 6 I'll set it to 8, then knock it down to 6 once I've put my meal in - I don't want it to get to 6, the lose a load of heat as I open the door and essentially be a 4 for the first few mins of my cooking time.

Never touch my boiler, neither does my wife.

I can see the logic here. Personally I don't actually ever bother with preheating the oven and just put stuff in cold and adjust the timing accordingly!
