Went to see this last night and overall I enjoyed the show - it’s much better than the last few films.

The first half I think I liked more than the second as it really felt slightly different to usual, which was refreshing, but it finished up much like any other bond film (apart from……you know).

And the main villain was rubbish! At times he almost went full Dr Evil, had no sort of menace about him and his motivation were gooseberry fool.

It’s a shame they had a great villain in Blofeld and wasted him in a gooseberry fool film, and then a good film which they wasted on a gooseberry fool villain.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Not only did they waste a good villain in Spectre, they wasted a brilliant actor :fp:

Most people going into this will probably be aware - but just to avoid anyone getting themself in the same situation I was in when I saw it.... you should have some awareness of the previous Daniel Craig Bond films. I'd never seen a James Bond film before and thought each film was its own self contained thing, didn't realise there was a continuous arc across the previous four films - its definitely worth at least reading the synopsis for spectre beforehand.

As a non-James Bond fan - I thought it was great, surprised by what an emotional experience I had with it. My friend suggested I would like Skyfall but I enjoyed this one enough to check out all the Craig films then watch this one again when I can appreciate it more.

Good:
Car chases, gunfights, fisticuffs - using real locations and stunts.
Clear efforts made to make it feel Bondy - gadget filled car, villain's secret island lair (from the Soviet era, no less), sidekick villain with unusual physical characteristic (bionic eye), nods to previous Bond films.

Bad:
Plot, story, tone, Craig's acting when he's doing anything that isn't punching a face. There's some nice little jokes along the way, but still that pervading sense of dourness you get with these movies. Overall, it felt like your bog standard Daniel Craig Bond film we've had a few times since Quantum of Solace.

Saw it last night, was great overall.

Wasn't overly surprised it ended how it did but I'm glad they just fully went with it. Despite several missiles landing on his end I was still expecting him to pop up in London afterwards, Batman style.

The opening scene, the foggy woods and the sort of one-take up the stairwell were really cool.
Ana de Armas
Probably longer than it needed to be

Definitely interested where they go next with Bond, I assume this is it for this cast. Curious if they'll even keep with this serious tone again or if they go back and go weird with it.

Ending up seeing this tonight and I dont know if it's because I went in with low expectations but I did actually enjoy it. The opening was brilliant and beautifully shot-as was the whole film really, a lot of the humour landed and I thought it did a really good job of paying homage to Bond in little ways while keeping things serious. Also, Ana de Armas was sensational and the film needed more of her.

The big flaw though was clearly the villain. I didn't really get his motivation and he wasn't at all sinister. I could see what they were going for but it just didn't work or come together. Also, with his island and what not, was be Dr No at some point in the script drafts but they changed their mind?

One thing that annoyed me, even accepting the fact this is a Bond film with crazy tech, but the the logistics and technological capabilities of Blofeld's seeing eye are absolutely wild when you really think about it

Not as good as Casino Royale but better than the rest of the Craig era/10

Just got back from seeing it this afternoon/evening and for the most part it was fantastic, easily better then most of Craig’s films but probably still behind Casino Royal.

The opening sequence was just ‘chef’s kiss’, like I’d probably happily watch that a few times given the chance  In fact the whole film was great till it got to the latter 1/3 which was where I thought it fell off quite a bit. Some of the scenes were amazing to watch, obviously the opening scene, the entire section in Cuba and then the one in the Misty woods were just superb. Loved the call backs to other films as well, in the cars and the musical scores, that Aston Martin V8 Vantage :datass:

Anyway, spoilers/questions below,
I get why the main villain wanted to off Blofeld and Mr White at the start, but why did he seemingly want to kill millions of people around the world? He just kind of appears at the start, gets shot, somehow survives, comes back to kill Blofeld, then goes full Dr No and has an entire operation set up ready to go, then decides to off Madeline and her/Bond’s daughter (liked the neat touch when he puts Madeline on the train at the start, when she feels her stomach, gave a small hint which turned out to be right) which leads to Bond’s death/sacrifice on island, once Bond has killed him of course after he comes back just to spite Bond and hopefully kill Madeline. The people rocking up to buy the stuff also vanished into thin air at the end, not even a mention of them once the missiles had been launched. As the film progressed you kind of got the feeling someone wasn’t going to make the end out of Madeline or Bond, it just had a sense of unease, with the villains insurance policy passed over to him earlier you knew that’d either have DNA for one of them inside, there is definitely no coming back from that for this Bond though!

The bionic eye felt very much like the Black Mirror episode ‘entire history of you’.

With a stronger final 1/3 this might have become my favourite Craig era Bond film but sadly it didn’t, still a great film though, thankfully didn’t feel like 2 hours and 43 minutes either! Cant wait to see where they take Bond next, get the feeling it’ll be a mainly new cast for the major recurring roles.

You can actually see the boats turning around, away from the island, as the missiles strike it.

If they'd done the villain better this would have given Casino Royale a run for its money imo

Up until they got to the island I was enjoying it just as much as Casino Royale if I’m honest but unfortunately in the latter stages the film did drop off, even parts of the final 1/3 were decent but the villain just let it down when it mattered.

Edit, Just seen a comment on a YouTube video about how the Heracles project is similar to Foxdie

Surprised reading this thread that people prefer Casion Royale to SKyfall. Skyfall is by far the best Craig film for me.

Skyfall > Casino Royal > No time to Die > Spectre > the other one.

Saw this today.

Thought it was great, but not the best. I'd say Casino Royale>Skyfall>No Time To Die>Quantum of Solace>Spectre, but I've enjoyed all of them. Probably the best run out of all the Bonds.

I had my suspicions it was going to end that way going by the amount of spoilering being done in here and people saying they wanted to talk to people about it. But it was still a nice surprise to see them commit to it so completely.

Though I loved when it became absolutely clear there wasn't going to be any last moment reprive.

So a good send off for Craig who has been consistently excellent all they way through. A fantastic Bond and definitely a contender for the best of the lot.

Saw it last night and it was such an odd film. Parts of it I adored, parts of it I thought were dreadful. I thought as a thematic way to wrap up Craig’s tenure it was really satisfying, and lots and lots of the character moments were great. Some amazing cinematography (I loved the tunnel shot that was meant to look like the classic gun barrel opening scene), some gorgeous sets and everything clips along to make a loooooooong film feel really short.

But the plot is total bollocks. Even by Bond standards it’s nonsensical. And I’ve got no ill will against Rami Malik but he’s wasted on this tripe. I’ve only seen the previous films once each at release but I got the feeling I was meant to already know who this guy is and his motivations and that was the showdown it had all been building but honestly I had no strawberry floating clue what he was up to or what he was trying to achieve and why.

Oh and Ana de Armas is literally unfairly beautiful.
