If you actually tried to criticize my concern instead of twisting my words and mocking them, there wouldn't be an issue here, but it appears as though you just don't give a strawberry float either way.

Moggy wrote:You concern reads like a GB News rant about the dangers of "woke". You've given zero examples of the gender politics that you are concerned might make Bond look bad. Just vague nonsense about an external agenda. What does that even mean?

Fair enough that I didn't give any examples, although unfortunately you still decided the best response wasn't to inquire further so as to try to better understand my point of view, but to simply mock it. I've read a few articles leading up to the films release that have given me cause to suspect that Cory Fukunaga (the film's director) has a greater interest in criticising the character rather than highlighting his strengths. A film is not the place to be hanging iconic characters out to dry.

Mockey wrote:You're right I mocked you, but there was no twisting of words and nobody suggested you condone rape.

Reading back I can tell that you didn't twist my words or implied that I condone rape, so I apologise for that. However you did jump the gun and could've been more receptive to what I actually meant.

What comments has Cory Funkunaga made that gave you that concern out of interest? The only thing I've seen is he said the rape scene in Goldfinger wouldn't fly today which obviously, it wouldn't. Other than that, I've only seen him be enthusiastic for the character and film.

Is it not confirmed that he straight up said "Bond is a rapist"? I'm not saying he's wrong, but it's hardly necessary to say it so bluntly, as if he's an actual menace to society. And furthermore, while I acknowledge that his persona has been poked and prodded in the films as early as Pierce Brosnan's tenure, the way it's being handled now - in a whole swathe of media, not just potentially this one film - comes off so contrived by comparison.

So, in light of the current climate - how these themes are being implemented, how hellbent they are on making statements to the detriment of well written stories - I hope you can at least see how a line as seemingly harmless as "The world's moved on, commander Bond" in conjunction with "stay in your lane" might carry, perhaps unfairly, an air of shoehorned intervention about them.

You're moaning about his comments, but haven't bothered looking up what he actually said?

“Is it Thunderball or Goldfinger where basically Sean Connery’s character rapes a woman?” said Fukunaga. “She’s like ‘No, no, no,’ and he’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ That wouldn’t fly today.”

He's not wrong, Connery's Bond is a rapist and it wouldn't be acceptable today.

So, in light of the current climate - how these themes are being implemented, how hellbent they are on making statements to the detriment of well written stories

That's a ridiculous statement.

No, he didn't say that. That's just what the headlines (wrongly) implied he said.

This is exactly what he said:
“Is it Thunderball or Goldfinger where, like, basically Sean Connery’s character rapes a woman?” Fukunaga asks. “She’s like ‘No, no, no,’ and he’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ That wouldn’t fly today.”

It was within the context of talking about the female leads and how they are portrayed within Bonds film and giving them equity.

Probably better to actually listen to his thoughts than to draw huge conclusions off some misquoted headlines

Seen it.

It was something different which I didn't expect, but it was fantastic and a perfect send-off for Daniel Craig.

That PTS was really something special. I loved it.

Seen it.

I actually left the cinema stunned. What a magnificent film. Certainly different. What a great swansong for Daniel Craig’s Bond.

The only gripe I have about the film is Rami Malek’s villain. Overall he’s just… there to move the film along. Apart from that, I can’t wait to see it again tbh.

Despite being a bit of a Bond fan in the past, I didn't give much of a monkeys about this film. Some of the comments here are raising my interest!

I’m desperate to discuss the ending with my friends but they haven’t seen it yet. So you’ll do… :capnscotty: :slol:

Spoilers!

James Bond dies at the end. That stunned me actually. I expected him to dive off and emerge unscathed. :slol: I’m even still stunned since I left the cinema on Sunday night. Probably will be like that for the next few days.

This made me think perhaps this Bond era is a self contained era, separate from the other eras of James Bond. The next James Bond will be a massive reset. I don’t watch a 007 film because it’s 007, but because of James Bond. I hope they don’t carry on the series without James Bond.

I know! I was stunned too and I am still thinking about it. It was something I didn't expect! I think I need to see it again to absorb everything again and this time I would probably know what to expect.

At the end after the credits, "James Bond will return" showed up. So what it means? It could be a new Bond which is a male but I think it'll be different this time. I would like to see a brand new story and nothing do with Daniel Craig's arc which they have ended it.

I loved it too… so glad they had the balls to go through with that; his character arc from Casino Royale to No Time to Die is great. I had tears in my eyes come the end, couldn’t believe it I was stunned!

I was a bit disappointed in Safin, I wanted to know more about his father or if he was the son of an older James Bond villain like they’d brought back Blofeld. His motives were a bit pants.

There was so many neat touches; Bond mouthing ‘my family’ and Q’s fine China and Teapot drawer to name a couple.

Biggest plot point should have been; How on earth did Ana de Armas’ dress stay in place with all them fisticuffs couldn’t not look  she was great as a rookie, a spin off with her as lead would be watchable.

Also I had an inkling when Swann held her belly when Bond dumps her on a train, that she’s pregnant. Keep an eye out for that.

I think Bond sacrificed himself for partially selfish reason. He doesn’t want to be without his family.

I think a hard reset is more likely. Well I hope so, as anything else wouldn’t be very satisfying.

I agree with the villain. He was totally rubbish. Even the small time that Blofeld have in this film outshines him.

I've been Skyfooled (again).

skyfool
verb
1. to be taken in by hype
Billy was skyfooled into thinking Skyfall might be worth a watch
2. increased disappointment due to raised expectations
after being skyfooled once, he vowed never to be skyfooled again... but then he went to see No Time to Die
