I can understand why they've delayed it again, so many factors like will it make enough money, what will the virus situation be like in November and customer confidence. But ultimately delaying big films like this will work down the chain with cinema's and places like HMV feeling the pinch, it'll be interesting to see if other cinema's will hibernate til next spring.

Speaking of HMV, the lack of big films this summer has left the pre-order lists pretty sparse, and there are only a handful of TV boxsets (Westworld, The Crown, Grey's Anatomy, and the latest Arrowverse seasons which have just come out) to fill the gap.

It's times like this when studios delaying their movies/putting everything on streaming services (Borat 2, Mulan etc) is really beginning to show.

The studios don't care about the chain. Cinema companies may go bust but the gap in the market will be quickly filled once things pick up again. So the studios won't lose out.

Yeah, there's always some private equity fund waiting in the shadows, ready to pounce on the corpse of any chain that goes bust. The long term prospects of the current film distribution model will be fine, I recon, as will all the major studios.

I think Amazon were rumoured to be in talks for buying AMC in America before the pandemic.

Delayed again!

To October 2021.

:(

Why wouldn't they just release on one of these streaming like Netflix or Amazon?

Wasn't there a rumour they shopped it around but couldn't get the price they wanted. Haven't all big streaming releases been for films that were produced by the company the also owns the streaming service? I would guess it all comes down to money, and they still think they can get more in cinema - even if that's a while away.

As soon as it's on any streaming service it'll become the most pirated release in history.

I think Variety were reporting they wanted Netflix to pay 250 million.
