My only concern is that Bond might be made to look bad out of some misguided gender politics. I've got No Time for That Sh*t.

Oh no! They might have icky girls and Bond might not act like a twat.

I consider myself a fan of all eras of Bond, but even I can't get behind his 'rapey' persona - it makes for objectively uncomfortable viewing, no matter the context.

What I'm actually saying (and what you seem to have misinterpreted) is that I'd rather not see the main character diminished for the sake of an external agenda. I can't stand all this petty point scoring going on in Hollywood right now. Strong, capable women in this film, I think isn't an issue whatsoever, just so long as Bond himself doesn't become lost in his own franchise.

Quite the leap you (and possibly others) have made to make out that by holding this viewpoint, I'm somehow condoning rape, but okay.

I don't think anybody has suggested you are condoning rape.

When you say bollocks like "My only concern is that Bond might be made to look bad out of some misguided gender politics. I've got No Time for That Sh*t", then you shouldn't be surprised if people criticise you or mock you.

HMV have announced they've got their own exclusive Blu Ray release:

Image

This Limited Edition Gift Set includes:
4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray
Aston Martin Keyring
Exclusive 48 page Minibook
Exclusive Artcards

No Time To Die is yours to own with exclusive never-before-seen bonus features. Daniel Craig returns one last time as James Bond, starring alongside OscarĀ® winner Rami Malek in No Time To Die. Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

I blame Ubisoft for this trend. Needs an exclusive scene, only available to those who order the film from HMV.

My concern is absolutely valid, whereas you responded quite presumptuously (and some might say immaturely) by making out like I'm some kind of anti-feminist. That also doesn't mean to say I want to see Bond act like a twat, either.

If you actually tried to criticize my concern instead of twisting my words and mocking them, there wouldn't be an issue here, but it appears as though you just don't give a strawberry float either way.

You concern reads like a GB News rant about the dangers of "woke". You've given zero examples of the gender politics that you are concerned might make Bond look bad. Just vague nonsense about an external agenda. What does that even mean?

You're right I mocked you, but there was no twisting of words and nobody suggested you condone rape.

Fair enough that I didn't give any examples, although unfortunately you still decided the best response wasn't to inquire further so as to try to better understand my point of view, but to simply mock it. I've read a few articles leading up to the films release that have given me cause to suspect that Cory Fukunaga (the film's director) has a greater interest in criticising the character rather than highlighting his strengths. A film is not the place to be hanging iconic characters out to dry.

Reading back I can tell that you didn't twist my words or implied that I condone rape, so I apologise for that. However you did jump the gun and could've been more receptive to what I actually meant.

They've criticised Bond for years. Under Brosnan they had Dench call him a sexist, misogynistic dinosaur that was a relic of the Cold War.

If they want to examine the character and give greater depth, a film is the perfect place to examine it. Writing a blog just isn't going to cut it.

I see too many people online going on about "woke" and whining about the modern world being intolerant of old fashioned views. You might not have meant it that way, but saying things like "external gender politics" is only going to result in people assuming you're Dan Wootton in disguise.

Yeah I think at this point in time one of the few ways left to do something genuinely exciting with Bond is precisely to critically explore the murkier aspects of the character.

Casino Royale characterises him as a "blunt instrument" - there's plenty of value in digging into the balance between how much slack and autonomy you give to someone like that because of what they might be able to achieve against the moral compromise that requires
