I'd have paid to see Mulan at the cinema just to give it a bit of support but it being exclusive to Disney+ can chuff right off. Downloaded it instead. Would have been livid paying £20 for it on a streaming service :shifty:

Cineword are expected to announce their closure tomorrow off the back of this. A large chunk of their 5,000 staff to be asked to accept redundancy with the expectation of being rehired if and when they get started back up again next year.

It will be years before the U.K. and worldwide cinema industries recovers from COVID-19. I don’t feel safe going to one, and wouldn’t even for a major release and I consider myself a pretty big supporter of the cinema.

I've been back a couple of times and felt safe, but both screenings were very quiet.

I love going to the cinema, strawberry floating gutted at this to be honest. :(

Very sad news, these job losses, particularly approaching Christmas are terrible. It's a shame the Bond execs and the studio simply don't give a gooseberry fool.

You're quite right too. Disney+ already costs money, strawberry float paying more l, especially for a film starring someone with the political beliefs that the lead in that movie does.

I haven't been to a Cineworld since... I can't remember tbh. Maybe Everest? Some time around there. It's far too expensive.

The flip side being that if Bond were released into cinemas now, it would most likely lose The best part of £1b and potentially not even make its money back, costing jobs at the production company. The problem here isn’t Bond’s producers not caring, it’s a complete lack of support from the government for the industry, most likely precipitating a complete collapse in the larger chain cinemas over the course of the next year.

Cinemas are going to need to close to minimise overheads, make staff redundant and try and negotiate rent breaks while they wait for the world to return to normal. Nothing else is viable at this point without support.

I don't disagree, Coravirus is going to decimate many industries before it's done.

I went to see Tenet and felt quite safe at my local independent. Would have definitely seen Bond there. Actually tempted to go and see whatevers on there as it's only a few quid and I wouldn't want to lose it

Aside from people losing jobs which obviously is dreadful I think a reset for the film industry could be a good thing. Get budgets under control sort out ticket pricing, reconsider star power and effects budgets.

If it's allowed I'll definitely be going to see Dune in the cinema though.
