Anyone fancy playing with me and Peter Crisp on PS4?

Day one for me on PS4. Borderlands 2 is probably my most played game of all time

Reviews are out, 86% on metacritic - https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/borderlands-3

Destructoid - Chris Carter - 9 / 10

Borderlands 3 takes most of the good bits of Borderlands 2 and either rolls with them or improves upon them. It didn't need to reinvent the wheel either, as Gearbox pretty much had the formula figured out the second time around.

Forbes - Paul Tassi - 9 / 10

Borderlands 3 was worth the wait and will be a fixture in this genre for years to come. And I think few fans of the last two will be disappointed when they get their hands on it at last.

Game Informer - Matt Miller - 8 / 10

An old formula executed well, Borderlands 3 rarely takes chances or strays from expectation

GameSpot - Jordan Ramée - 8 / 10

Borderlands 3 fumbles with its bosses, but the game ultimately continues its predecessors' tradition of fun, mayhem-filled looting and shooting.

Hobby Consolas - Álvaro Alonso - Spanish - 94 / 100

Gearbox has taken the Borderlands formula and improved it to achieve the definitive "looter shooter". Bigger, better, longer and funnier; Borderlands 3 is legendary loot.

IGN - James Duggan - 9 / 10

Borderlands 3 sticks to its guns and outdoes itself with an amazing arsenal of weapons, humor, and missions.

PC Gamer - James Davenport - 63 / 100

An endless font of bad jokes and cool guns in the series' most vapid story yet, Borderlands 3 skates by on watching numbers fly and goons explode.

Polygon - Ben Kuchera - Unscored

Borderlands 3, if it works well at launch, is a competent game that feels like a passable continuation of the franchise instead of an evolution. It’s the same general idea with new vault hunters, but with little of the joy and danger that I fell in love with in earlier entries.

Shacknews - Josh Hawkins - 9 / 10

The Borderlands formula might be a bit dated with its raunchy jokes and cheesy dialogue, but that doesn’t change that it is a formula that keeps reeling players back in again and again. Despite the fact that I’ve already logged over 40 hours in the game, I still can't help but feel the want to dive back in with a new character just to experience it all again.

USgamer - Mike Williams - 4 / 5 stars

Despite the formula growing a bit stale, Gearbox has expanded upon it in the right way, resulting in a great Borderlands experience.

So the bad points are: it's like Borderlands 2 and you might not like the jokes.

I do find it a bit weird how so many reviewers are stating the similarities with 2. Yeah it's similar but it's definitely changed enough things to differentiate itself. Kind of feels like they haven't played 2 since it came out and since it's such a distinctive game they just draw more similarities than there actually are.

...and you have to hand over money to Pitchford, who's a dick.

Sure. But he's one person. Hundreds of people make this game who are all really cool people. There's plenty of videos of th talking to content creators about different builds or aspects of the game and how they've listened to fans requests.

I can buy the game and still think he's a knobhead.

Of course, I was just offering up another negative. ;)

Counterpoint: Pitchford gets a whole shitload more of your money than all of those people put together.

This looks really good, I really enjoyed the first one and I have the second on PS4 but I never played it. I won’t pick this up for a while (might wait a year for an edition with all DLC) but is it worth playing 2 beforehand?

Definitely.

2 has an actual story, greater variety in guns, more interesting skill trees, it's just generally all round a much improved version of 1 IMO.

I used to really like Jim and I understand his content is based around reporting gooseberry fool like this.

But he does it in such a smug and on the nose way I am really tiring of his videos.

I'm subscribed to him but haven't watched a video of his in months.

He never goes out of his way to investigate anything. His videos are the equivalent of a Sun article.

So far so good. Feels very like 2 but with a lot of quality of life improvements. The shooting feels more solid and the guns have a nice feel especially the shotguns  I did notice a slight frame rate dip, very minor but as I’m on pro and settings to performance over resolution it was a little concerning. Only once or twice so far so nothing major.

Don’t like the new claptrap voice but after a while it’s fine. Haven’t met new Rhys yet so time will tell on that recasting.

I don't think I've enjoyed playing a game this much for ages.

I got an overheat animation for one of the guns where my character pulled out a water pistol and squirted it to cool it down

The guns feel so good it's crazy, props to them, they feel quite weighty and impactful.

What's everyone's planned build? I'm going with Amara's projection ability, she has a skill that increases the damage by 50% for every enemy it passes through, as well as an ability than creates a singularity when she uses her action skills, and then the capstone lets her use her action skill twice.

I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this

I agree the guns feel weightier than before and although I’m early in the game I’m impressed at the weapon variety in terms of animations, designs and firing style. Plus the variable mode and underbarrel attachments are so much fun!

What versions are people getting? In the past the DLC has been good for boarderlands, so im tempted to get the ultimate(?) edition. Are the other extras any good?

You literally just get skins and stuff. I just got the normal version.
