As posted in Jawa's thread, I'm starting 2022 with the ambition of sticking to just my PS5 (having resisted several in-stock occasions at Amazon in December for the Xbox Series X) and reducing my PS4/PS5 backlog - in terms of number of games already owned, I stand no chance of removing my backlog in a calendar year unless I get made redundant (and this is not an aim of mine!) or win the lottery and can retire early (unlikely, though I'll keep on trying).

Im setting myself a target of no more than six new games this year & am intending to buy them all in November/December when the end of year price drops kick in. We'll see how it goes.....

I didn't really get a lot of time to game at the tail end of the year.

I've been thinking about getting back on this thread this year as it does help focus my gaming. Things may get added to the backlog as it's off the top of my head.

PROGRESS
Fallout 4 - I think I'm about level 8 or 9 and I've just unlocked the shanty town where the mayor and the reporter are. Not really convinced by VATS, seems to be more of a hindrance than a help. Spent a good few hours hopelessly underpowered and was considering jacking it in, but some decent guns and deciding to actually shoot things instead of using VATS has helped. Just pissing around unlocking areas and doing missions until the story happens.

Resi 4 - got through that first big fight outside the church. Handles a lot better than any other version of RE4 I've played so I'm game for more. Zombie hordes in VR are very unsettling! The teleport move seems a bit game-breaking but I don't really care.

Fallout 4 - I think I'm about level 8 or 9 and I've just unlocked the shanty town where the mayor and the reporter are. Not really convinced by VATS, seems to be more of a hindrance than a help. Spent a good few hours hopelessly underpowered and was considering jacking it in, but some decent guns and deciding to actually shoot things instead of using VATS has helped. Just pissing around unlocking areas and doing missions until the story happens.

Resi 4 - got through that first big fight outside the church. Handles a lot better than any other version of RE4 I've played so I'm game for more. Zombie hordes in VR are very unsettling! The teleport move seems a bit game-breaking but I don't really care.

Tomb Raider - Just found the geezer who sounds like Sean Bean and he's sent me up the mountain to the radio tower. The QTEs in this game are strawberry floating stupid. Firstly, on PC they don't always say which button you're supposed to press so you don't know if it's E or F. Secondly - who the strawberry float thought needing to press one button to initiate a stealth kill and then mash another to finish it was a good idea? In terms of gameplay it's...okay I suppose. Seems a bit derivative thus far. To be honest every TR game I've played since TR1 has been a disappointment to me because they took the lonely, atmospheric, liminal masterpiece that was the original and thought "do you know what would make this game stand out in a crowd? GOONS!" Then suddenly you have a middle-tier shootemup with square platforms and squarer tits. I glanced at a walkthrough to check my progress and saw mentions of temples to be explored. I hope they are what I'm after, because at the moment I want everyone on the island to die as I'm sick of their tropey VG character drama.
