Thanks for running the game very interesting.

From my view point I got lucky to start but finding loot and then flying under the radar for a long time :)

Top Killers

Of 28 players, 18 got kills. Only 5 players got more than 1 kill. The most prolific murderer was Tragic Magic with 4 kills.

4 Tragic Magic
3 Oblomov Boblomov
3 Slayerx
2 Super Dragon 64

1 Hexx
1 DarkRula
1 Vermilion
1 Mini E
1 Karl
1 more heat than light

1 Jezo

The Shotgun was the most popular murder weapon, killing 12 people. Not far behind it was the pistol, responsible for 9 deaths. The sniper rifle killed 6 people - 4 by sniping and 2 up close and personal. No one was punched to death (although it did almost happen!)

My Thoughts

I had fun hosting this and I'm generally pleased with how it unfolded. I was pleasantly surprised by quite how much cooperation and teaming up seemed to happen - although as host I didn't really get much insight into this because I didn't see all the PMs that went between players! It'd be cool to hear of any particularly notable team ups or betrayals.

The game did last longer than I expected, and the rate of deaths was slower than I anticipated with a lot more people surviving until the final square. I hope this didn't make the game too boring or feel dragged out. My main complaint with it is that it meant there was an awful lot of luck involved at the end, with 13 players all left to shoot each other in an order determined at random. I'm not sure how this could be best addressed, although I have a couple of ideas below.

Only requiring one PM per day from each player is a good rule that levels the playing field for less active forumites and those in different timezones. I would not change this. I would however consider splitting the day into two distinct phases - "action" and "movement". While ideally from a strategy perspective a player would be able to choose what to do in the movement phase based on the outcome of the action phase, this would double the playtime through requiring two days per full turn. Instead I would suggest players sending in both their action and movement (if any) at the same time, requiring a certain amount of prediction but keeping the pace of the game up.

There are two benefits to separating out movement. First, it means that players on the edge of the map can always perform an action, even when the map is shrinking. Day 11 in our game was completely uneventful because literally everyone apart from Vermilion had to spend it moving into the centre, and this would remedy that. The second benefit is that players wouldn't miss shooting someone because the action order had them move away first. This would speed up the game and lead to earlier kills as there were multiple instances where people avoided getting shot by moving.

There were two mechanics that were suggested by multiple players. The first was dual wielding. I had not accounted for dual wielding in thinking up weapon balance, and I think the balance is actually pretty good where it is. I wouldn't add dual wielding without some further modification. The second suggestion was for an "overwatch" action, where any player who moved into the tile would get shot. Having thought about this I think it would slow down the game, as movement would be discouraged and the best way to survive if you find yourself on an empty tile would be to enter overwatch rather than moving. I think aggressive play needs to be encouraged, not discouraged. Also, if movement is separated out into a separate phase, this action becomes null anyway.

If I were to run the game again I would definitely write some proper scripts to help with the turn/action resolution. The end game was fine, but the early game was taking me easily over an hour a day to resolve and get all the PMs sent out. I also made a handful of mistakes (thankfully not game changing) that automation could eliminate.

Overall then I think there are improvements to the game to be made, but for the first play test of the game's rules I think it went very well!

BRcade Legacy - Proposed Map Change

I think it'd be really cool for future games if the map changes with every game, with a new named location getting added by popular vote. To that end I'd like to propose people post their suggestions for a new named location, along with the map coordinates, preferably based off events that happened in the game. The site of the first kill by Dual for example, or maybe the spot where Dual himself was finally hunted down.

Once we've got a few suggestions in I'll add a poll to the thread and then we can vote for a new permanent addition to the map! Breaking the current symmetry will make the next game more interesting for choosing a drop location too.

Wally John Black's BBQ Shack should be a new location for next time.

Located where Denster got struck by lightning.

Welp, now the game is over, I'll post my thoughts in here.

We get a catchy name now that we're dead? Typical.

Jezo didn't even help me take down Oblomov, he betrayed your memory and let me die. I vote we retract his membership

From the get go I always thought of myself as a lone wolf in the game. I wanted to stay away from the potential trickery and manipulation as much as possible. So I never considered myself a part of the team anyway kek. Also, I accidentally missed 2 turns early game. Oops. I actually had no guns on me until I picked up that Shotgun at the end. :^)

I didn't plan on attacking anyone I didn't feel I had to anyway. PsychicSykes ended up being my first and only attack of the game. The RNG was unfortunately not on my side there since PsychicSykes still got a shot in before I killed him. Then any little hope remaining got stripped away in the final 3 when Slayerx got Drumstick to shoot at me, allowing him to pick up the shotgun. I only had 1 shotgun blast left, so I really needed Slayerx to kill Drumstick. Well played, well played.

Overall this was super fun. I wish I paid more attention in the beginning, the end game was incredibly tense and exciting and I enjoyed playing out scenarios and strategising. Just wish I had prepared better. Perhaps I'll try forming a team next time... That is, if there's any trust left... :shifty:

The Radar Station went unvisited the entire game, and the centre didn't get visited until day 5. I enjoyed everyone hanging back instead of entering the centre when the map shrunk for the final time. Maybe three people all being sniped in the centre is proof enough that going there is a dangerous move - I'm glad sniper rifles actually got used to good effect like that.

:toot:

How I won:

Pre-game: I tried to make an alliance with main man Corazon de Leon. He rejected me because he was too busy or something.

Days 1-2: I looted G5 twice and received pistols both times.

Day 3: Mini E and PPM stumbled into my square. An alliance was struck and we as a team decided to move to F5.

Day 4: Also joining us at F5 were Parksey, Vermilion, DarkRula. I immediately messaged DarkRula and Vermilion individually to agree peace treaties. PPM and I agreed to take aim at Parksey whilst Mini E looted.

Day 5: Dual ran into our square. The three of us decided to try and end Dual.

Day 6: Dual got away but not without us getting a shot off and wounding him. With the grid about to close in once again we all agreed to make the move to E5.

Day 7: The move didn't go as planned when, The Traitor, PPM, decided to move to a different square. Undeterred, Mini E and I (aka The Trustworthy Duo) vowed to stick together. Slayerx and Moggy joined us our our new square. I messaged slayerx to try and get him on side, he had already decided to move spaces. Mini E and I decided to kill Moggy.

Day 8: Moggy died. As we were alone on the square, Mini E and I decided to have a night of relative calm. We both opted to loot; he took a shotgun whilst I took a medkit.

Day 9: Seemingly this would be our last day before moving into the Royale Arena. However, because I had a medkit, I decided to hold back on E5 for an extra day and take the 1HP hit before healing once in the Royale Arena. I looted and got my third pistol.

Day 10: I stayed at E5. I also made what would be a fairly crucial alliance with PsychicSykes, promising to go to the end with him if possible.

Day 11: I was moved into the Royale Arena. Sykes decided he was going to take a shot at Vermilion. PPM supported the idea of us all taking aim at separate targets which I agreed to. He was going to target slayerx, though neither myself or Mini E committed to a target. I decided to use my medkit to boost me back up to 3HP.

Day 12: PPM had rather predictably turned on Mini E (who lived for the time being to tell a very angry tale), Sykes merked Vermilion and I wasn't targeted. Mini E put a bounty on PPM's head and I thought it would be a good time to bring Mini E and Sykes together as my two main alliance buddies. I agreed that Sykes would shoot PPM, whilst I went after Tragic Magic (purely because he was on a rampage and held a shotgun which were one hit kills). So, with the three of us linked up and aligned, looking to go deep into the game we headed into Day 13 in great shape.

Day 13: This was almost disastrous. Mini E died at the hands of Tragic Magic and seemingly everyone but me was packing shotguns! The only saving graces were that Sykes survived and I had managed to put an end to Tragic's murderous massacre. However, I knew I would need to do some work to ensure survival, so I got busy. Firstly I messaged slayerx as he was the only other person without a shotgun, selling him on the need to team up. It was agreed he would shoot Oblomov Boblomov. I then messaged Oblomov to make a pact, he said he was going to shoot either Jezo or slayerx which was fine by me. After that, I messaged Sykes to urge him to use his shotgun against Jezo on the basis that Jezo had previously picked up a medkit but hadn't yet used it - meaning he likely had 3HP (or more). I argued that my pistol wouldn't kill him and might allow him to use the medkit to save himself later on. Sykes agreed with this, meaning I had 3 or the 4 remaining people on side to not shoot me. Finally, I contacted Jezo and informed him that Sykes and OB had an alliance and were both going to take aim at him (explaining the medkit reasoning) that night and that he had an opportunity to save himself. I said I was going to be aiming at Oblomov and left him to it, knowing he was probably going to aim at Sykes but it all depended on the RNG. Bottom line was that I done what I needed to do avoid all the remaining crosshairs.

Day 14: Oblomov and Sykes (RIP) both died, but not before Sykes could wound Jezo with the shotgun. This left myself, Jezo and slayerx in the game and I had a level of trust with both of them... but I still only had a pistol. Again, I had some work to do. I contacted slayerx, he told me he was out of ammo and would be looting. Using that, I went to Jezo and concocted a story about slayerx promising not to shoot me but being non-committal about what his action would be that night. I then ramped up the alleged slayerx story by having slayerx change his mind and saying he was going to shoot me for not trusting him. Eventually, through a mish-mash of ideas and plans, I thought I had convinced Jezo of going for the RNG triangle, where slayerx would shoot me, I'd shoot Jezo, who would shoot slayerx. Of course slayerx couldn't shoot me, and if things went to plan and I got lucky with the RNG, victory could be mine.

Day 15: Turned out Jezo saw through "slayerx's" lies and decided to heal up whilst I blasted him with my pistol. Slayerx had looted a shotgun and it was agreed we would shoot Jezo to finally kill him off. Knowing that I would need to get two pistol shots off at slayerx in order to win, I decided to aim for him whilst he took care of Jezo, who confessed to me that he had run out of ammo.

Day 16: With Jezo down there was only one person left and as slayerx had a shotgun but only 1HP, it was going to down to the RNG which wasn't what I really wanted.

Day 17: I got lucky with the RNG and for once had my action go first, killing slayerx with my pistol, to win the game.

Thanks to OrangeRakoon for running the game.

That was a great look at how the winner managed to win, Drumstick.

As for me, I hardly did any behind-the-scenes dealings. Pre-game I was set on the SONM pride, and dropped to F6. Of course, a few others also had the same idea, so it was a case of being lucky in what I looted and getting out of there.

Thankfully I got a pistol. Instead of moving on, though, I tried to shoot at Parksey - who avoided it by moving. So then I moved into F5, but a lot of people were here, so I wasn't going to chance anything. That was the day Drumstick messaged about the pact. I'd already got my heart set on hunting Parksey anyway, so said as much and moved on.

Parksey had been picked off before I could fire, and the thing I had been scared would happen as Vermillion got off a shot. I was now on critical health. Parksey was down, but the forum was presenting a new target I could lock to. Dual.

As luck would have it, Dual fled the scene and I'd managed to run into the same space. Drumstick had already damaged the bounty, and it would have been lost had RNG favoured the others of the tile, but having followed the bounty, I could strike.

Day 7 was also the start of my downfall, as while I managed to strike at Dual, Vermillion had entered this tile. If I couldn't get out quickly, I knew I was done for, and it was all down to RNG. Jezo had also got in contact - offering a team-up. Having no idea where Jezo was, I agreed on a meet at D4 - but also setting up a revenge kill that was needed.

No idea if Jezo had fired at Verm, but my murderer had fallen, and that was all I cared about.

Thanks for running the game OR.

I didn’t really have any tactics, I was just moving around the game and hoping to find loot and stay out of trouble. At one point Dual appeared in my square and I was going to kill him but he ran off before I could get him.

I had a vague idea that if I could avoid trouble until the last time the board shrank, I would stay outside of the middle square and just take the slight hit to health. My hope was everyone else would have killed each other by then and I could just move in and get a final kill.

It was a good game and was nice to play something different from our usual AYA games.
