You can't have a meal in Five Guys without spending just shy of 20 quid. After all the hype I didn't think it was all that different from McDonald's premium ranges, tbh.

I hope those throwing things at politicians are prepared for the potential repercussions of their actions, whether that be via social media or ending up in jail, which is what happened to some bloke who cracked an egg over Corbyn's head recently (this is also where Prescott pops up on radio and TV to wheel out his 'Tony Blair told me to connect with the electorate so I did' anecdote that I'm sure the whole country has now heard at least 5 times).

Bog Standard Burger: £7.25
Smallest Chips: £2.95
Fizzy Drink: £3.25
Total: £13.25

That’s strawberry floating mental.

A cheese and bacon burger with Cajun fries is strawberry floating gorgeous though.

There’s far better options at that price range.

But do you get free peanuts?

I love a good Five Guys, but I had a Shake Shack the other day and it was even better :datass:.

Five Guys is meh, and ludicrously overpriced. Possibly needs to be discussed in a different thread though.

It’s Brexit related. Their milkshakes are now a legitimate weapon again the far right and after Brexit the US trade deal will mean they are the only food allowed in the UK.

I mean, the right have literally murdered a serving MP in broad daylight in the middle of the street.

How do you complain about milkshakes when compared to that?

They murdered a Labour MP.

They’ve sent death threats to left wing politicians.

They find it hilarious to make rape jokes about a sitting Labour MP.

But a milkshake? Oh no! That’s too far and risks escalating things!

The thing is, it's a bit of a lose lose for the left, because the far right have no intention nor need of approaching the situation in good faith. Good faith engagement and smashing them with McFlurries are equally exploitable for their cause, because they're not interested in discussion or resolution; they're interested in recruitment.

I've been having a little back and forth with some Brexiteers on FB recently and unfortunately the ignorance on display is astounding. I have asked several of its most vehement supporters why they voted the way they did and why they still support it? Most responses start with "I know exactly what I voted for" to which I reply; please can you give me specifics. Upon this question being asked they retreat to "To take back control, to get our country back". When I then point out that we have the power of veto of any laws the EU try to impose they stop talking to me. None of these people can give specifics, all they have is platitudes that have been spewing forth for over three years.

I try to be polite and present arguments based on the small amount of research I have done, but I either get ignored or abused. I am at a loss as to what I can do to dissuade people from voting for the Brexit party. Although I am "winning" the arguments, I feel no satisfaction from it and come away from such exchanges, more depressed than ever.

You can't debate a fascist. Fascism is not a rational ideology. They are driven by fear (of the other) and hate (of nonconformity).

Fascist rhetoric is therefore emotive, not logical. "Do you support gay Muslim rape-terrorists or do you support us? Exactly. Vote Brexit Party." You can't deconstruct that factually, but you can deconstruct it emotionally.

Hit them where it hurts by calling them cowards, then prove it by making them shite their pants over a banana milkshake. That's praxis.

You cannot reason someone out of something he or she was not reasoned into.

You can't do anything. Those types of people will never be reasoned with, or convinced. It's a complete waste of time.

Laughed at a quitter on Twitter (that rhymes). Said he was voting for the Brexit Party.

Every conversation I have tried goes something like this (usually with far worse spelling):

Moggy: “So why did you vote out?
Leaver: “NHS! Freedom to make our own laws! Immigration”
Moggy: “But you know the NHS will be worse off, we can control immigration and we could already make our own laws?”
Leaver: “Don’t tell me what I voted for! Brexit has been betrayed by ReMOANers!”
Moggy: “But what did you vote for? There are lots of different types of Brexit”
Leaver: “We voted to Leave the whole thing! WTO!”
Moggy: “But nobody could have voted for that because those were never presented as options”
Leaver: “Don’t tell me what I voted for! What’s wrong with WTO like every other country trades under? We could trade with the world! You just think we are all stupid racists! ”
Moggy: “….”

Dan Hodges with a nuclear meltdown level hot take. Comparing Liverpool's boycott of The Sun newspaper over their reporting of the Hillsborough disaster with the Brexit party banning C4. "If you're upset with one, you should be upset with both."

I've had a bit of success with moving the conversation to the future, specifically climate change and that none of the parties except Green have an answer to it. I've converted 3 Brexit party votes in to Green or something else so far.
