I’m glad Johnson will look after people that earn over £50k. They really need some help in this cruel world.

KK wrote:
Jeremy Corbyn and his inner circle are considering a frontbench reshuffle that could see the shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry, moved as a punishment for insisting that the party must back a second Brexit referendum, according to several senior figures in the party.

There is also growing support from some of Corbyn’s allies, including union leaders close to the leader’s office, for a new contest to be held that could see Tom Watson replaced as deputy leader, following his persistent backing for a public vote on the UK’s exit from the EU.

Sources inside Corbyn’s office said last night that there were “all sorts of mischievous rumours” being put about, but did not confirm – or rule out – imminent changes to the party’s top team. “They are very angry with Emily and are out to get Tom,” said one shadow cabinet source. “That has been incredibly obvious over recent days.” Another senior source said: “There is talk of petitions going round local parties, particularly to rally support for a deputy leadership contest. This would require more than 50 MPs to back it to get off the ground. They may want to do it, but it almost certainly won’t work.”

Thornberry was humiliated last week when Corbyn’s office decided to ditch her as the stand-in at prime minister’s questions in favour of shadow business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey, who is a close ally of both Corbyn and the shadow chancellor, John McDonnell.

The decision was taken, according to insiders, because Thornberry had blamed the party’s poor showing in the European elections on its ambiguous position over a second referendum and called on the party to give unequivocal backing to a second vote in which the party would campaign for Remain. One idea being floated by Corbyn supporters, say sources, is that Thornberry should swap positions with the shadow home secretary, Diane Abbott, to help ensure that Thornberry is removed from direct involvement in strategy around Brexit. “They have been trying to do this for weeks, but Diane refuses to move,” said one senior MP.

Shadow ministers also believe that some in Corbyn’s office want to remove Keir Starmer as shadow Brexit secretary, because he had led calls for the party to back a second referendum. But it is thought Corbyn is unlikely to risk a move which MPs believe could lead to Starmer’s resignation.

Don’t question supreme leader.

I would not approve of this move, Thornberry is an asset to the shadow cabinet. Watson, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about...

The Tory leadership candidates are just a shamble of strawberry floats, more news at ten.

I'm starting to think about stocking up again. It's likely this will not end well.

It's just all such a waste of time when we all know the MPs will put Boris into the final two and the Tory members will make him Prime Minister.

I guess it's a nice opportunity for the Tories to distract the public for a little bit and it gives some Tories the chance to show how "tough" they are.

But in a months time the new PM is going to face the exact same problems as May did.

Still think Brexit won't happen somehow. Enough time will pass that another referendum will eventually be called.

I keep flipping between that idea and absolute despair.

Logically though, Johnson isn't going to have any advantages over May even if he is pushing for No Deal. The ERG would fall into line, but you would hope that more sensible Tories would vote against falling off of the cliff. Which means Parliament will still be unable to agree anything, while saying that No Deal is not an option.

Does Johnson risk an election that could end up with him being the shortest reigning PM in British history? Does he go for a referendum (probably secretly hoping Remain win!) to solve the problem? Or does he bluster and bumble around hoping that the EU lose their patience, refuse an extension and we fall out of the EU without him having to actually pull the trigger.

I actually want Boris to win. I don't support his political views but it's going to be really curious to see what he does. If no deal happens, his neck will be on the line. He won't be able to blame Remainers or the EU because he has publicly put the end of October as an arbitrary date. There is simply no reason why that date needs to be enforced.

But if he delays, he is going to get gooseberry fool for it. If he goes for a second referendum he will get gooseberry fool for it. He can't really go for a GE because there won't be time before October.

His neck will be totally on the line and it will be incredible to see his decades long Etonian plot for the top job to just blow up in his face.

Boris's neck is never going to be on the block. Yours, mine and everyone else in the country will be paying the bills of his premiership for decades to come so it's our collective necks that are in danger.

It may well blow up in his face. The trouble is he will easily survive the explosion while the rest of us get blown to smithereens.

9 years of Tory rule have led us this point, do you really want a nasty buffoon like Johnson to make things worse?
