It's a lie as well because the implication of his statement is that we'll be in the situation with the US as we were inside so it's fine, but the EU has a bunch of agreements with the US that we won't have. Also this is really only step one of the consequences if we don't come into compliance they'll look to take further action.

I have very little clue about the implications but I wasn't exactly looking forward to a deal with the US forcing a decline in animal welfare and increased NHS costs and privatisation anyway

....I'm sure the tories will find a way regardless

It's so depressing how many little things will get a lot worse because of Brexit. Our weekly groceries are going to get more expensive while at the same going down in quality. YAY

Yes but you'll be able to wash those hyper inflated groceries down with copious spoonfuls of SOVEREIGNTY!

I saw a comment on the BBC the other day that was essentially "even if I died in 10 years time because of Brexit it would still be worth it to get our country back"

I mean for ffs

I saw somebody recently arguing that it's all worth it as in 30-40 years we'll only be 0.03% down on where we would be if we remained in the EU. He was completely serious.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/brexit-strips-expats-of-uk-bank-accounts-565bsvn6k

Tens of thousands of Britons who live in Europe are to be stripped of their UK bank accounts and credit cards within weeks, because the government has failed to negotiate post-Brexit rules.

A number of the biggest British banks, including Lloyds, Barclays and the Queen’s bank, Coutts, have started writing to expatriates to say they will stop serving them when the withdrawal agreement ends at 11pm on December 31.

A Brexit with a competent Government wouldn't have been great whatever but with the shower of gooseberry fool in charge at the moment this is going to be an absolute disaster.

eeeeeeeeeeerrrrr

Is there any non-paywalled version of this as, you know, losing my bank account seems pretty strawberry floating bad

EDIT: Found one. I have no idea if this is going to affect me. I've not received any emails like this, and the term "ex-pat" is used so vaguely that it's essentially meaningless. I live in France but the only nationality I hold is British. The registered address for my Natwest account is a UK one (my parent's house) and for my money stuff over here I have both a French account and a floating/international one based out of Germany. All my savings are in my UK account however.

strawberry float knows.

@Taf could be an idea to transfer your savings into an account owned by your parents?

Most of the links I can find are for newspaper websites you wouldn't want to click (the Mail, Sun and Express).

From what I gather though, this only matters if your bank/credit card is registered to an overseas address. As yours is registered at your parents address, you should be fine.

I don't know about access to cash machines or transferring money between UK and EU though.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I'm not concerned about this affecting us tbh.
