Front page of BBC - Johnson is adding a clause blocking further extensions of the transition period to the withdrawal agreement. No deal Brexit guaranteed for 2021 when they can't complete a trade deal next year.

I know it's relevant to a few here that after No Deal, Ireland is the only country where UK/EU couples will be able to live together. You can get your citizenship after 5 years and never think about this cursed country again.

That’s a good point and goes for Northern Ireland and the Republic (thanks to the CTA).

Although for how long is another question? Will it last a no deal Brexit.

It was law long before the EU existed. They could repeal it of course, but I’ve heard no plans for that.

Plus UK citizens can move to Northern Ireland and then claim Irish citizenship after 5 years. To get rid of that would mean the end of the Good Friday Agreement or Irish reunification.

Surely if we head back towards a no deal it becomes more likely.

The CTA isn’t going to disappear because of a No Deal. The advice at the moment for couples that wish to stay together is the Irish option, that’s the only way.

So, what are the realistic chances of the process being mostly complete by the end of 2020?
I realise we're going to have a transition phase but I'm just talking about the bulk of the process? Will we be out by this time next year?

I voted to stay in by the way.

From January 31 we will be out of the EU as a political entity but have 11 months of transition where we remain in the single market (so freedom of movement, etc., still applies). We will then be out with no deal whatsoever on the 1st of January 2021.

[EDIT: edited for better grammar]

I've honestly eased my restrictions on spending on Christmas presents this year quite a bit, purely because I don't know what next Christmas or the one after are going to look like.

Wetherspoons, wanted Brexit and now have a shortage of pigs on blankets as we don't have enough seasonal EU workers:

The CTA pre-dates either country joining the EU so its not really tied to Brexit at all. Regardless of deeal/no deal it will still exist., removing it would be a completely seperate thing and is unlikely to happen.

I mean I don't want to suggest that Wetherspoons pigs in blankets are actually soylent green but

In October, the British Meat Association (BMA) warned that pigs in blankets may be in short supply this year due to a lack of seasonal EU workers across UK meat plants.

Pigs in blankets are definitely soylent green

Surely the Brexiteers should have been able to identify sufficient levels of home grown UK workers who could volunteer to be "processed"?!

It's been years since I've been as suicidal as I've been over the last few weeks, if there was a "become pigs in blankets" booth to go to I would be pretty tempted.

Your partner's Italian, isn't she? Are you going to have similar problems staying in the same country?
