It really shows the Mail's priorities when the calibre of the guns on the ships is a front page-worthy piece of information and a picture caption for their audience to rub themselves off over, forgetting to mention that French patrol boats like the D'Estienne d'Orves-class are considerably more heavily armed.

On the plus side, I think this is the type of bulllshit that will be a huge turn off for the Scottish electorate voting today.

I am sure that it is pure coincidence that the government are doing this on election day. :simper:

I hate the way he's known as Boris, and not Johnson or Boris Johnson. You never saw Cameron referred to as David or May referred to as Theresa.

LOL HE'S SO FUNNY WITH HIS SILLY HAIR!

The worst part in my mind is that the headline should be a massive, massive negative, but it won't be received that way!

People should read that and think "What the strawberry float? What is the stupid banana split doing? Aggression is wrong! I don't like war!" but instead you know half the electorate will read it and think "Woohoo, rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves!!"

There's no hope for us.

I only want my fish and chips to be using 100% British fish caught during the great British defeat of the French in British waters!

Was looking at that J O'Brien thread and seen someone say that they aren't gunboats, they are patrol boats with guns. I don't know why I found this so funny. Typically a flag shagger.

There seems to be a massive overreaction from both sides on this fishing issue.
From reading a bit into it the issue stems from 17 French fishing vessels not yet being issued licenses, but this is because they haven't submitted all the required information needed. 40 other French fishing vessels however have been granted licenses so it's not like there's some kind of blanket block going on.
The French are then insisting this is active blocking for those 17 vessels and so are threatening to cut off electrical supplies to the island.

The whole thing just seems to be strawberry float ups and massive overreactions by everyone involved.

Some at work believe we should "just shoot their boats and have done with it" :dread:

Utter stupidity from the British and the French. If you know anything about the Navy, its another case of Johnson the clown. Those two ships are pretty much dossing around all day doing strawberry float all, would be no good in anything more than a very minor skirmish.

Just wait till the French arrive in their lorries, they love a good lorry blockade. Floating lorry blockade.

Exactly. It's done to rile up Mail or Sun voters. It serves no purpose, those ships will not be able to do anything more than float about within eye shot of the protestors.

Apparently the French are now sending navy ships too. Utterly pointless and wasteful exercise. We've gone from WW2 nostalgia to Peninsula War nostalgia in a matter of weeks.

I think threatening to export Nigel Lawson would have been more effective.
