I noticed my Sainsbury's has introduced a new section entitled "when it's gone, it's gone" which mostly features a load of junk food I've not seen before at low prices, seemingly there to pad out the shelves. For example they had Hershey's 'chocolate' bars in various flavours (birthday cake! strawberries and creme!) and Reese for 50 pence. Or Pepsi that I swear was blue. BLUE! You look on the Sainsbury's website and these aren't products stocked nationally. I don't know if this is some sort of new mandate to store managers entitled 'just buy any old gooseberry fool you can get your hands on'.

Assume that will affect lager too, wonder how the Brexit crowd are going to react when they can't buy Carling anymore.

I wonder how long it's been since there was a pro- or positive Brexit opinion posted in this thread.

Maybe Brexit was a stealth way of managing obesity.

Brb, off to stockpile orangeade.

I going to stockpile diet coke and use it to get government contracts off of Sunak. I'll be a millionaire.

Not just here, anywhere!

The Leavers all seem reduced now to denying there are any shortages, saying things "aren't all that bad" or pretending that Nando's running out of chicken was good for the nation's health.

I doubt there's been a pro Brexit comment on here since PurplePenguin left.

The "When it's gone, it's gone" has been in Sainsbury's for over a year now. As you say it's nearly also full of junk food which they either don't usually sell or received more than expected and need to get rid of it.

How could I have forgotten about him, when he made such interesting points like this:

I wonder if he's accepted Brexit is a huge mistake yet or if he's still delusional.

Your thoughts are appreciated at this difficult time. I intend to hold a minutes belching every Thursday at 8PM for as long as this harrowing situation endures.

There were definitely more Leavers than just PP, though. It would be genuinely interesting to know what their current stance is.

Covid is providing the perfect screen for all of this sadly, the Brexiters are just hiding behind that as the cause of any problems - even though it's obviously complete bullshit.

I'd have thought that they would either be gloating like strawberry float or admitting to having made a mistake. This completely disappearing act is both puzzling and frustrating.

There's nothing to gloat about.

And they were never going to admit it.

I overheard someone on ITV the other day trying to spin the CO2 shortage as a good thing. It might have been Loose Women, I turned over quickly. Something like "Why are people complaining about this? I thought with global warming, we were supposed to be using less CO2!".

NI Coca-Cola production ‘saved from UK CO2 crisis by protocol’
Northern Ireland bottlers are getting their carbon dioxide from EU countries while GB remains paralysed by the closure of huge fertiliser factories

The local manufacturers of Coca-Cola have moved to assure customers that they won’t run out of Northern Ireland’s favourite drink any time soon.

Their confidence is in stark contrast to that of the British Soft Drinks Association, who claimed that UK manufacturers have “only a few days” of carbon dioxide left to produce fizzy drinks.

The association also warned that, due to Brexit, producers cannot import supplies of CO2 from the European Union.

Interesting. I wonder why we can't import it from the EU? I assume exports of it are banned by the EU or is it the case that our rules prevent us from importing it?

I’m guessing on some drinks it’s maybe a licensing issue? There’s loads of foreign drinks in the world food aisles but they’re not officially sold here. A number of drinks are already imported from the USA, though they often have to have the ingredient label restickered to be more transparent.

I’ve sometimes shopped in discounters and the Pepsi has come in from places like India, though this was a number of years ago. £-Stretcher used to import Lea and Perrins from Russia (it was made here, shipped to Russia, and then shipped back again). You’d never see the main supermarkets doing things like that.
