I see on my regular weekend stroll round the docks the Grain Barge has suddenly decided to fly a large EU flag.

No other flags that I could see, just an EU flag.

Strange marketing ploy to deliberately annoy and put off more than half your potential customers.

Maybe they don't want Brexiteer customers?

If so, mission accomplished - our refreshment money went elsewhere and I doubt we were alone.

Leavers are such snowflakes

To be fair, if I planned to go somewhere (say a pub) and when I turned up there was a big 'Leave Means Leave' banner on display, or something similar, I would almost certainly go somewhere else.

Maybe I am a snowflake as well .

I don't see many people being put off by that to be honest. Bristol has plenty of 'spoons for anyone offended by an EU flag. And don't forget, 'Spoons recently dropped the price by 20p a pint thereby admitting they were overcharging, and that its possible to reduce prices whilst in the EU.

It's probably worth noting that the national curriculum wasn't introduced until 1988 and teachers are still largely free to teach what they want. I remember studying a lot about revolutionary France and William Morris in history.

Northern Ireland economy 'enters or is entering' recession

The Northern Ireland economy "has entered or is entering recession" according to a survey by Ulster Bank.

It suggests Brexit-related uncertainty underpinned the fall in private sector output in August.

Every month the bank asks local businesses about things such as staffing levels, exports and new orders.

It is considered a reliable barometer of private sector activity in Northern Ireland.

Output fell for the sixth month in a row.

A slowdown was seen across all four sectors - manufacturing, construction, services and retail.

Northern Ireland reported the sharpest contraction in business activity of any UK region.

Johnson having to stand there while an openly gay Irish Taoiseach who is the son of Indian migrants schools him on what Brexit actually means and how to speak like a proper statesman is a beautiful thing to watch.

A lone England would also no longer be able to hide its intense political divisions. How long will left-leaning cities like London, Bristol, Liverpool, and Manchester accept eternal far-right Tory rule? There's no telling how that tension will resolve itself but it won't be a polite debate.

Living in cities forces you to encounter people outside of your bubble, because you'll work with them, shop alongside them, your kids will go to school with them. Living in a city gives you an idea of how much state funding can improve the lives of so many.

Well those are the reasons why I think that rural areas tend to be more conservative.

Republics? If the Britons are to finally regain their independence from the Anglo-Norman menace, surely it will be under the banner of the returned once and future king? I'm expecting him to march out of Avalon any day now and declare war upon Brexit, much to the confusion of the little englanders who mistakenly identify Arthur with their own national identity. Maybe St George would join him also, riding in on the back of a welsh dragon, clutching his red European passport in a triumphant celebration of his greek heritage, just to add insult to injury.
