Fully expect Johnson's ratings to go up because of this though. Britain being utterly humiliated on the world stage will play to all kinds of independent/remain leaning voters who automatically believe in the idea of British exceptionalism.

Yeah Johnson will secretly love it, it’ll allow him to pretend to be Churchill against the evil 4th reich.

Absolutely no Boris fan, but there is little point in politicians speaking outside these days as it always descends into heckles. Everytime a PM talks outside Downing Street, you can hardly hear them over the shouts outside the gates. People obviously have the right to shout protests, but hold the press conferences in side for christ sake.

Not that it makes a difference, rarely do press conferences reveal anything. And the press and media have been shameful today, absolutely no scrutiny or comment at all that Boris has basically said he is going to break the law in refusing to ask for an extension.

I agree they should do things inside, but then I doubt Luxembourg is used to that sort of protest.

It’s hilarious though, the Tories have been calling Corbyn a chicken for a week now, but Johnson was too afraid to show his face after a few boos. Yesterday he says he was the Hulk, today he ran away quicker than the Flash.

Nigel Farage walks into a pub and says, “I'll have a pint of beer please”. The barman pours a pint, then throws it all over Farage.

'What did you do that for?' says Farage, drenched to the skin.

'Because you're in a metaphor which illustrates the stupidity of asking for something but not stipulating how you strawberry floating wanted it delivered, you frog-faced sniveling banana split!'

'But I'm still thirsty, so I want a pint -- this time in a glass!' says Farage.

'You can't ask again!' said the barman.

'Why not?' sniveled Farage.

'Democracy.' says the barman.

The Twitter response to the Lib Dems policy on Brexit is so far past ridiculous it's mind boggling. Apparently it's undemocratic to stand on a mandate of cancelling Brexit in a vote where you can literally vote for something else. This whole country needs a firmware update and a hard reboot. Either that or I guess it unsurprising that Twitter farms in the former Soviet Union are having trouble getting to grips with the notion of democracy.

It’s so weird that people seem unable to comprehend what democracy actually means. Voting has now become undemocratic. :fp: The same people also appear to not comprehend British politics, the Lib Dems are not going to win the next election.

The Lib Dem Brexit position seems perfectly reasonable. If they win the election (they won’t) then they will not allow themselves to be responsible for Brexit. If they held a referendum then they would be forced to do it, they are simply saying if they win then Brexit is over while they are in power.

But they know they will not win the next election and so have said they will continue pushing for another referendum.

That’s really simple, but I guess “Lol not-so-liberal UNdemocrats rofl!!!” is even simpler.

I haven't seen any of the Twitter comments but there is an argument that Lib Dems could form a government having only got say 35% of the vote. It's hard to say they would then have a mandate to revoke A50, in the same way Boris doesn't have a mandate to push ahead with No Deal. However, Lib Dems are one of the few that want to get rid of FPTP so can't really blame them for the bad voting system we have.

It’s true they could win on 35%, but as you say that’s the shitty system we have, one the Tories have never wanted to change.

I think the only solution is a referendum but even that wouldn’t stop people campaigning on either side unless it was a massive Remain or Leave victory.

But the changes that the Lib Dems get 35% of the vote and that vote is distributed enough to actually get over 50 of the seats is next to none.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

I'm watching this supreme court case. Very interesting that Boris wouldn't repeat under a sworn testimony that he didn't lie to the Queen.

I really hope he gets absolutely busted for the gooseberry fool he has pulled. If Brexit happens, it should be done legally and through parliament. I find it absolutely amazing the amount of brexiteers I speak to that no longer give a gooseberry fool about parliamentary sovereignty.

If the supreme court reverses the decision of the Scottish courts then Boris is just going to prorogue parliament again before the end of October and force through a no deal.

That's what the guy who is fighting this is arguing.

The government basically don't give a gooseberry fool about listening to Parliament now. That's dangerous.
