The local news here was detailing the infrastructure that was going to be built here to deal with border checks on goods from Great Britain. This kind of confused me because, as Boris has pointed out, such a border will not exist. Silly civil servants.

Honestly I probably would have said the same thing before the Matthew Elliott incident.

The BBC has always taken a position - centrist, pro-establishment, against radical movements - but what's been really interesting over the last months is seeing it shift that position to the far-right and correspondingly adopt tabloid tactics and rhetoric. The BBC pioneered British propaganda around the world wars, but it had to cultivate an air of neutrality to do so and that meant it still ended up being a better news source than the majority of other platforms out there. This principle has now clearly been abandoned and the intent seems to be to build (or rather, import from the States) a new kind of propaganda for the new fake news era and a new, emergent far-right establishment.

People are saying it's a self-own because if the Tories win it will be privatised, but I'm sure the Tories at the top of the organisation are invested in the right's objectives, on the level of personal interests, I assume fine with privatisation as those at the top will of course then make more money from it.

To be fair, I think part of the problem is that they are not used to dealing with a government that spews lies on such an industrial scale. They are used to being able to take the word of government ministers and the like with confidence that it is not an outright fabrication, even if it might have been heavily spin doctored. Unfortunately, most of the journalists in the BBC have been doing that their whole careers and don't actually know how to do their jobs as journalists with a basic level of competency; hence them just regurgitating appalling lies without qualification.

I would suggest firing them all and hiring some new graduates who have a freshly learned knowledge of actual journalistic standards and due diligence. Separating truth from fiction in the cyber age requires a level of work and wits that the old guard simply don't have in them; time to put them out to pasture.

Obviously there is a strong class interest and solidarity with the Tories (as well as the right wing Blair/Brown part of the Labour party) but that does not explain them repeating obvious lies that they then have to delete almost immediately, which just makes them look bad.

Regardless of political views, it's not a bloody sport. It's not about supporting a side, cheering them on for 90 minutes and then afterwards one of you loses the game, you swap shirts and go take a nice hot bath.

This ideal of political tribalism and of one side "winning" and the other "losing", like it's strawberry floating Everton against West Ham needs to die. It's what was always the worst thing about American politics - their two party politics just divides everything in two and leads to people just backing the party on everything so they "win". But it's started to creep in over here too.

Yes, I'm aware that all the candidates in the GE weren't literally horses.

Is it a bad idea to delete all of my Tory backing family members from Facebook. I feel like it is but I feel so depressed and hateful towards them.

45.5% voted for Brexit parties. No wonder Boris insisted on a general election rather than second referendum. People don't want Brexit anymore, but our crap electoral system has split the remain vote and united the leavers.

Now either Boris lies (again) and extends the transition period in the summer for a long drawn out deal negotiation. Or we leave with no deal in a year.
