A Brexit vote would have gone Remain for the last couple of years.

Some Leavers are regretful, most are just quiet about it now. The more vocal ones are saying it's still a good idea but Johnson has strawberry floated it up.

The government is very pro Brexit and will be in power for another 4-5 years so there's not a lot the public can do, even if it is unpopular with the public.

@Photek: Just to put some numbers to it, there has been consistent support in opinion polls for a a second referendum since mid-2018. The opinion polls show Remain winning that hypothetical second vote since mid-2017.

It's not really about what the public want, it's about what the Tories want.

It's an amazing confession of incompetence that he's trying to dress up as the trickster EU conning us. Except the government were (repeatedly!) warned how shitty Johnson's deal was, they just refused to listen as "Get Brexit Done" was more important than actually looking at the pros and cons of Brexit itself.

And the Leave banana splits are still out there telling everyone that "Nigel would fix this!" and "right, let's go WTO then!".

So it's a bad deal that IDS didn't actually read before he voted to support it. :fp:

I won't accept Tories trying to lay the blame on the EU's door, they have every right to get the best deal for them and the strawberry floating Tories agreed to it. So this is entirely on them, and they should be explaining to the people why and how they strawberry floated up so badly.

There really needs to be some serious questions asked of him, but I suspect he will be ducking media interviews for a while.

Of course it is entirely the Tories fault, but them putting the blame on the EU is going to be an easy sell for them unfortunately, much of the population will accept that

It's an absolute tragedy. A small group of rich people have tricked a lot of poor people into believing the EU are the cause of all their problems, just so they can make themselves a bit richer and in the process, destroy the country and make everyone else's life a bit worse.

Democracy in the UK means a party that gets 43% of the vote ends up with absolute control and is able to do something that the majority of the country doesn't want.
