Look at the Conservative voters opinion there. The government have caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people and they either don't give a strawberry float or have been conned into thinking it's somebody else's fault.

I don't think that the graph holds the whole truth. I think a lot of people actually blame both the government and the public. On that poll there isn't a both option, so Tory voters are placing most of the blame on the public but that doesn't mean the government is faultless.

If we see food shortages the government will start to take flack from it, if it gets bad most of the right wing papers will be forced to join in the attacked and it'll create a kind of anti Boris feedback loop which will tank his governments approval rating.

I think the last few years have shown that the Tories will be fine.

Remember all the previous outrages? And look at the approval ratings.

I doubt they'll win another 80 seat majority, but I don't see them losing too much support. We no longer live in a country where people float with their votes, we are the most polarised we've been in living memory and it's only getting worse.

I still think at some point the papers have to pivot parties. They know they cant live in a one party winning forever system. Theyve switched before and they will have to switch again.

I don't really get this but apparently the government is looking to create a boarder around Kent and have hauliers get something called a Kent Access Permit. :slol: :fp:

https://www.expressandstar.com/news/uk- ... -hauliers/

Plans to install a “border in Kent” will create “more red tape” for businesses, the logistics industry has warned.

The Department for Transport is consulting on a series of measures as part of Operation Brock contingency planning for possible disruption to cross-Channel trade when the Brexit transition period ends on December 31.

It is proposing to require hauliers driving to the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel, Folkestone to be in possession of a Kent Access Permit (KAP).

Brexiters angrily demand the French take control of our borders

The arrival by boat of migrants on our shore has made Leave-supporting Ministers, pundits and members of the public adamant that for the UK to be fully sovereign and in control of its frontiers, then the French have to step up and decide who can come here.

Home Secretary and part-time demonic succubus, Priti Patel, issued a series of Tweets explaining that a foreign government should take control in order for the UK to be free of the shackles of treaties with foreign governments.

An idea later explained by her media strategist Simon Williams.

He explained “We will no longer be Brussel’s puppet on immigration. We have taken full control of our destiny and that’s why we want French police to decide who gets to board a boat for Britain, French immigration officials to ascertain who has the right to enter the UK, and the French Navy to decide who can sail into British territorial waters.

“The people gave a clear signal that they have had enough of Johnny Eurocrat deciding who we can welcome or turn away. And now they have seen what happens when French officials are not bound by treaties to assist us, they demand something be done. By someone else.

Didn't even occur to me that headline was satire when I read it.

Had my first meeting with an immigration lawyer today. Looks like it's going to be a ton of hassle and cost a shitload of money. Hooray!

From the S*n (copied and pasted from another forum).

Deadly bluff

BRUSSELS negotiators have a history of playing dirty.

But it is still disturbing that they have stooped to using the lives of desperate migrants as bargaining chips in Brexit trade talks.

Britain simply doesn’t have the money or the manpower to police the Channel alone.

So until European countries pool their resources, it will be near impossible to shut down the deadly route between Calais and Dover used by evil people-traffickers and the vulnerable migrants they exploit.

Given the thousands of lives at stake, you’d think EU negotiators would put politics aside and spring to Britain’s aid.

Instead, they’re refusing to do anything at all until the UK caves to a slew of ludicrous trade demands.

From the off, the UK has asked for a fair deal from the EU27 — hardly different to those it has agreed with Canada or Japan.

Yet feckless eurocrats remain hellbent on playing the hardman, to punish Brits for voting for Brexit.

We hope they wake up to the deadly consequences of their inaction soon.

I already know the answer but just how stupid are their readers? :fp:

It serves its purpose. They want people to blame the EU when this all goes to gooseberry fool. It's aimed at people who either don't have the critical faculties to analyse it, or the hardcore I'm not gonna change my mind types.

All this has ever been is downplaying expectations after promising the world at the beginning. We are going into a world of gooseberry fool. I just hope people realise what caused it eventually. I don't think they will.

I don't think the EU are using the migrants as a bargaining chip to be fair. I think France almost certainly are, I get the actions of our govt have been shameful to say the least, but huge criticism needs to be aimed at the French also.

And that article talks bollocks when it says the UK doesn't have the money or resources to secure the channel. I used to work with the Navy, they definitely have the resources to patrol the channel and rescue the small numbers that are currently coming over.

Please note, I'm not saying the Navy should be blockading the channel, they should be used to patrol and rescue.

Whatever the state of the UK's ability to secure the boarder it's not the French's or EU's job to secure it for us.

I'm not sure of how the law works as normally borders tend to be directly linked by land and thus are jointly managed. In this case that is clearly an external French border and they do have a duty to manage it. I believe we should support them in that, but I'd suggest it is immoral on the French part (just as is is immoral on our part to not take in refugees) to seemingly allow people to leave the country on unsafe small boats which has led to loss of life this week in the Channel.

It should of course be a joint effort, but the French need to be stopping these traffickers from sending people out into open sea in unfit craft primarily.
