Don't underestimate what heady mix English exceptionalism and xenophobia can be. These people deeply believe that the country will be fine because we're British and that we'd be doing a darn sight better if Johnny Foreigner wasn't sticking their nose in.

Can confirm this is happening in NI as well. Well, in the small amount of stores I frequently visit.

So this is for the Sugar Beet industry.

British Sugar are the sole growers of this crop in the UK. The Managing Director of this company, Paul Kenwood is married to a Tory minister, Victoria Atkins. The chief exec of BS's owners, ABF has donated £900k to the tories.

I mentioned BS in the politics thread recently as its the same company that has the sole licence to grow medical cannabis in the UK - and indeed grows so much of the stuff it makes the UK the largest grower of medical cannabis in the world! - and Victoria Atkins was the anti weed legalisation drugs minister.

It all strawberry floating stinks.

Putting the significant economic implications aside for a moment, this is despicable, cultural vandalism. Absolute Tory vermin.

It appears the stumbling block was Priti Patel’s immigration crackdown which has introduced tough restrictions on tours by EU musicians.

The music thing is going to hit British acts far more than anyone from the EU. Small/part time British acts touring Europe, playing one off or a couple of gigs over a weekend is a very common thing, particularly in the summer. Such a stupid decision.

They're probably bloody European bees flying over here and taking our nectar. Good riddance I say.

It's a really upsetting situation. I've toured Europe a few times on a shoestring and it's been amazing each time we've gone but it's likely completely unviable now financially. I have utter contempt for the Tory government over this. It stings even more knowing that some of my family voted for Brexit and the Tories despite "being so proud of me." My protestations and predictions of this being likely to happen cast aside as something that "would never happen" as if I don't have a clue what would affect the field I've worked for years to try and stay aloft in. Completely gooseberry fools on something that I love to do and limits my freedom to work in an entirely unnecessary way.

I swear if I can't see Rammstein this year now because of this I'm changing the wedding playlist to their entire discography and moving a speaker next to the Brexit supporters (unfortunately family members so can't not invite them without nonsense happening) table.

Gonna mess up loads of festivals big and small as well. But of course "they were never going to reduce our rights or safety measures".

It's a toss up whether you'll miss them because of government incompetence with the pandemic or because of government nationalism with Brexit.
