Thanks Winckle.

Currently away for the weekend so I'll give the whole process a go sometime next week. Will probably take some snaps and post a thread about how I get on.

I think the lettebomb thing only works if you have a GameCube capable Wii. I think.

There are Wiis without GameCube stuff?

Yeah, there was a revision to the standard looking Wii with all the hardware GC bits stripped out, then there's that one that looks like the burger box.

Mine runs GC discs, I tested it with Wind Waker and Mario Galaxy.

Hello again all,

So I have been following the steps outlined in this guide. So far, so good (I think).

I'm up to step 3 and have extracted both the modpack files and the Letterbomb files; however both have a file named " boot.elf "
So when I go to move all the contents onto my SD card, it either overwrites one with the other, or renames one.

The files are a similar size but not idential; do they do the same job? Or is one a bootfile for modpack and the other a bootfile for letterbomb? Am I best having them on separate folders on the SD card? Or will they be OK if one is renamed; will the software just automatically pick up and run the one that's compatible?

Anyone who has any idea what I'm talking about :slol: your advice would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I know Galaxy is not a GC disc! What I meant was, I tested it with a GC game and a Wii game to make sure it could run both.

So, er, anyone know about boot.elf files? :)

One is used to install the homebrew channel. Once the homebrew channel is installed, you can use it to run other software. Most software will have a boot.ELF. IRRC, it's the format of the executable used by the Wii's main PowerPC. I seem to recall that mostly those will go in their own folder.

Some of the hardware, yes. The controller ports and such. Most of the actual hardware required to run the software is still there - it is, after all, part of the Wii. But you can't do jack with it because there's no hardware memory card support or controllers.

Thanks TTK, I'll put the two folders on the SD card with all the relevant bits and pieces still inside them and give it a go like that.

Does anyone have a fix for the busted controllers. One of mine still has the flashing blue lights it just won't connect?

Failing that you can buy a second for like 2 quid and play all your discs on it and play all the VC games via the homebrew channel.

Pretty much the cheapest method and most convenient too imo, however i think you need to run a game to install the homebrew channel!

I THINK It heavily depends on how old the Wii is, and how recent it's firmware is. If you've got one of the games then a modified save is usually the best way to get the homebrew channel installed. Failing that, you HAVE to hope an exploit like bannerbomb is valid.

Once you've got the Homebrew channel installed, the system is wide open for other softmods.

I got it working on the vWii of the Wii U using Smash Bros Brawl so I'm sure that the Smash Bros method works on any Wii, regardless of firmware.
