Broken Wii

My Wii has stopped reading discs. Has anyone else had this problem before, and how did you fix it?

I realise I could probably just pick another one up dirt cheap but I've got a load of VC games saved on it, so would rather have this one repaired. Any advice would be good.

Mine did this. I installed the homebrew channel and ran everything from a hard drive.

Failing that you can buy a second for like 2 quid and play all your discs on it and play all the VC games via the homebrew channel.

The laser died. This happens a lot, it happened to a lot of people when Brawl came out in 2008 ( their lasers couldn't read double layered DVD's). My wii laser was killed by Metroid Other M (its like the console was trying to protect me). All I could do was contact nintendo customer services and have them arrange for me to send the system by free post. Took something like 3 weeks for the console to come back.

Very good odds you could just get a replacement drive mech off ebay. Though, homebrew makes every Wii better.

Speaking of broken Wii's, my remotes seem to refuse to connect to the console anymore. I swear these things die if you leave them alone for 6 months.

That the do. All 4 of mine died even though I never used 3 of them.

The remotes might have a small amount of internal memory to store Miis (remember this was possible) and pairing data, not charging a cmos battery from time to time will kill it. Probably repairable as well.

I've got 7 (!) wiimotes and as far as I know, they all still work and pair. That's got me properly paranoid now though, might have to start my gold zelda one up later to make sure it gets some juice.

I use mine interchangeably so it's unlikely that will ever happen. I reckon it's possible for the same thing to happen sixaxis controllers. Lithium ion batteries need to be used from time to time or they will eventually die.

I'd lovingly tucked away my assortment of Wii remotes. Now I'm panicking that they're dead :-(.

I had a similar problem turned out it was a dirty lens, got a cleaning kit and it's been fine ever since

I think at one point my Ganecube had a dirty lens as well. I just cleaned it with a cotton bud and it's been fine for years since. Since the Wii drive is completely enclosed maybe blasting some compressed air through it would work.

So I bought a cheap Wii restored to factory settings (it's in really good nick considering I paid £20 - and that includes a MotionPlus remote and nunchuk

). Having read through a couple of articles (like this one) about cracking the Wii, I see I need an SD card. I already have a spare 32GB micro SD card and a working adapter that makes it SD card size - could anyone tell me if this would work just as well?
