The sandbox mode they added as a separate listing on steam is so so great. You can play basket ball with your car as well as pachinko, various mazes, loop de loops and so on. It's a bit lacking in textures but it's hilarious.

That was the early tech demo - just for strawberry floating about with the physics etc. It's pretty impressive what they've managed to do - it's no BeamNG in terms of accurate physics and car damage, but if it was the races would be over almost instantly. I had a race earlier where one car's front side had been punched in, making the wheelbase much narrower at the front than the back, and the driver was practically sitting on air and it was still going. Another flipped over and the front got caught on the floor, wrenching the front of the car up, but still kept going.

The worst is when playing from cockpit view and the bonnet comes loose, that happened a lot in Flatout 1, which made it really strawberry floating difficult, but all part of the fun

Did I just imagine that they'd included Arena Essex...or am I thinking of another game? Maybe I dreamt it or something...

I hope they keep it in and develop it a bit more, even if it's just sticking some textures in. That mode in online multiplayer would be so much fun

It probably uses adaptive vsync which will halve fps again and again until it reaches a stable point.

I doubt it - those kinds of environments have to be fairly plain so you can see exactly what's going on with the car and stuff like that. I enjoyed it while it was the only option, but prefer blazing around the tracks now it's an option.

As for vsync I might force it through the GPU, that normally works. If not then there isn't all that much screen tearing, so it's not too bad. I wish they'd put the graphics options ingame though, having to do it through a launcher is a massive pain in the arse.

I think they have a lot of work to do with the frame rate. I'm running on a 770 barely just a year old and I have to turn a lot of stuff down to hit 60fps with all cars on screen. Unless they're aiming for 30fps on consoles.

UI also needs a lot of work but I understand that's the last piece of the puzzle, it is no good going through menus with a game pad currently.

Makes sense. I'm sure it will be optimised further before release tho.

http://www.wreckfestgame.com

XB1 version is $19.99 (£16.64) and will be released Spring 2017 initially via early access.

Flatout crew unite! I have preordered.

I would seriously wait for reviews - they've been dragging their heels with this for literally years and it still isn't finished.

I was reading the OP and realised it was from 2013. I was wondering what the update was going to be.

Semi interested in this, but not at the price on Steam.

Yes?

I know it breaks your arbitrary "no old games" embargo, but just get this for under a fiver and play Flatout 1 and 2. Ignore 3 as its made by some no-name Russian gooseberry fool devs.

Sorry guys, but if there's a chance of playing a modern version of Flatout UC on the XB1 then I'm in the "Take my money" camp.

Discounted price of £16.64 ($20) means it's not a huge investment.

Tempted. I did enjoy Flatout on the 360.

Kind of excited by this. Loved the Destruction Derby games back in the day, and the early Flatout games. Could be one of those situations where gaming has moved on but I’ll definitely give it a go.

The trailer makes me want a new Stuntman game for some reason but I’m pretty sure that’s never happening.

That looks pretty cool; like how I remember Destruction Derby but in today's gaming world. It's out on Thursday (!) for PC so, as a console player, this could be a chance to see if the game is gonna be worth looking out for come November.

The game's pretty solid, its just taken them years to get it out the door. I haven't touched it in months but will give it another go soon.

Also that trailer was a bit cringey.
